| reply to DavisPhotog Re: Petition to boycott Creative!
This is what they (Creative) say, since that link seems to be dead for me:
"We have read the strong feedback about Creative's forum post regarding driver development by Daniel_k and other outside parties. Creative's message posted on our behalf by our Company spokesperson tried to address our concern about the improper distribution of certain software which is the property of other companies. However, we did not make it as clear as we would have liked that we do support driver development by independent third parties. The huge task of developing driver updates to accommodate the many changes in the Vista operating system and the extensive testing required, including the lengthy Vista certification requirements for audio, makes it very difficult for Creative to develop updates for all past products. Outside developers have been very helpful to Creative and our customers by developing updates for many of our Sound Blaster products, and we do support and appreciate these efforts. This however does not extend to the unauthorized distribution of other companies' property. We hope to work out a mutually agreeable method for working with Daniel_k in supporting his efforts in driver development. Going forward, we are committed to doing a better job of working more closely with third parties to support their development for our products and our customers."
I have to hand it to them for finally responding to a complaint. Their silence when people complain is perhaps the worst aspect of how they mistreat consumers. -- You know your life has gotten "DICEY" when it turns into an episode of LOST, like my ex wife, who I swear is one of "The Others". | reply to anon666 It has come to our attention that a recent post on the site claimed Newegg had severed its relationship with Creative. This is a false statement and was not issued by an entity authorized to speak on behalf of newegg.com. Newegg does not and will not comment on product quality or provide product reviews. For this we count on you, our customers, and our online forums like EggXpert.
Please disregard the blog entry and all references to the information it contains. Thank you and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

| reply to DavisPhotog I really don't see why Creative supports all their sounds cards since Live 5.1. Sure they provide a driver. What about the other features such EAX, Equalizer, etc.? Those items should have been included in a driver suite similarly as ATI and nVidia do with their video cards.
Now, I am not asking for Creative to support something that isn't available on the 5.1's or Audigy cards that are on the current X-FI cards, but they could have / should have supported the features better for older cards as I mentioned above.
I think this whole ordeal is a good thing for Creative and their customers. I hope to see Creative turn this around and do the right thing. I just shun at the idea of thinking of getting a different name brand audio card. -- If you are having half as much fun as I am, then I must be having twice the fun than you are. Do The Math! |

said by aurgathor :What is the time frame when they are obligated to support their cards, and operating systems that were not available at the time of the purchase? None whatsover. They presumably tell you on the box what they support, and that's all they're obliged to support.
Sure, there are other good reasons for supporting newer versions of the OS, like "keeping your customers", but if you're talking about legal obligations, I suspect there are none.
It's really crappy PR to leave loyal customers high and dry. Trying to force them to buy new hardware is the worse way to get them to buy new hardware.
Strangely enough, I had this problem with a Logitech sound card back around 1993 when I switched to Windows NT - no drivers, no intent to provide drivers, no concern exhibited for customers at all. I haven't bought anything from Logitech since then. |

said by koitsu :Something interesting about Creative that I didn't know: Apparently they don't give reviewers/review hardware for evaluation. Instead, they force reviewers to go out and purchase the retail product. For how "image-oriented" Creative is as a company, I'd expect the exact opposite. Pretty weird... Most credible reviewers do that anyway (and refuse to accept products for review directly from companies) to be sure they're getting the same product available to consumers. -- Interested in open source engine management for your Subaru? |

well gee we all know the answer to that question...they dont!
how about we use creatives own track record? lets use the sblive as a example shall we?the card was released august 1998. average everyday operating systems that have been released since its inception?win98se,winME,win2000,winXP(we wont include server or 64bit oses, heck we could chop 98se right out if it makes ya feel better).yep you counted right, four new os changes that all retained 100% functionality for the sblive.hmmm doesnt make sense does it?
"well thats only one example",you say!?!
alrighty, lets jump ahead to the audigy series.released in 2001.it retained full functionality thru out the xp era.well what do we have here?thats seven whole years worth of functionality.in all windows environments even?!?gosh i should be golden from here on out...shouldnt i?
now this is where things get a liiiitle bit hazy.see,if you happened to be one of the unfortunates that assumed creative would continue upon much the same path.rut ro,boy oh boy, were you in for a treat!surprise!creative decided that your shiny new soundcard wasnt going to be compatable with vista.well i just bought this card three months ago!hah!touuuugh luck amigo.your on your own, creative laughs.oh and by the way unfortunate user...we have vista functionality buuuut you have to pay for the drivers aaaaahahahaha.
so please leave the"how long are they obligated"bs at the door.it just doesnt hold water my friend.no matter how you try to slice it up.bs is bs. |
