There would have been a tech-press-orgy if that had occurred. If I remember right, Steve Jobs announced the original iPhone in January of 2007 and it was not released till June of 2007. My standing prediction is that we will most likely see a 3G iPhone "on the street" by June 2009.

East Lyme, CT		 IIRC, the iPhone was announced before it was even submitted to the FCC.
