| why do i get this error
i am trying to put a dmg file on my server at dreamhost. when i go to download it i get this error
Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
The file is there and I can view and download it through FTP, but not HTTP. Why not? |

| Did you put the file in a directory that the webserver can read? If so, make sure the permissions are such that the webserver can read the file. -- We don't give a d@mn for the whole state of Michigan... we're from OHIO! O!H! ... I!O! |

| reply to way2evil I agree with state , where is the file actually located. Also, don't make the file 777, make it 666 at most. 777 could potentially allow someone to try and execute the file.
What type of file is it? |

| Check any 'hotlink protection' the web server may offer settings for. We had an issue with a server running Plesk where we could not access any images directly, and neither could some of our Flash applications, due to this hotlink protection...
edit: also, if it's a Win2003 server, it can be very restrictive about what files it will serve-up if there are not MIME Type entries for those files (seems rather random though). KM |

| Are there any spaces or punctuation in the filename? If you're typing in the URL, you'll need to encode them. See this page for more information: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percent-encoding |

File size limitation of 2GB I believe set on Dreamhost |

way2evil Premium join:2007-09-14 Great River, NY | yes it was the filesize. i split the files into two 1.75gb files and they went through just fine |

| said by way2evil :yes it was the filesize. i split the files into two 1.75gb files and they went through just fine There's a 2GB file size limit in Apache, but I think it was resolved. But I think in DreamHost, they left it like that. |
