| Don't feel bad about it. My reaction was the same when I ordered DSL with PSN couple of days before I knew DSLReports existed.
From order to installation took exactly 5 weeks(May 20 to June 27). Give it a chance and see how they do. I saw couple of reports and seems that people from DC/Baltimore area didn't have too much bad exp with PSN. A lot people from CA and many other states had problems.
I suppose to get 416/416 and they tried to setup 700K(or whatever that magic number is), but no luck so right now I get 416 up and down. The actual speed was around 380 down after I tweeked Window's TCP receiving size. But after I put in WatchGuard SOHO box in place, the speed dropped to 280 down and 400 up. Don't get WatchGuard if you only have one machine to get on the network. |

Yea they guy, David Koebing(sp) said it would take 30-45 days for installation. He also said i live 4000 feet, so MIGHT i have chance of a good connection. and yea im in the CA area |

Anon | Strongly suggest you have your NIC installed and IP information entered in the appropriate tab locations for the NIC >>BEFORE Northpoint technician arrives. Also, make sure you have received the modem (probably CopperRocket) from Northpoint. Best thing is to have your PC ready so when the Northpoint technician runs the line to your PC, you or they can check the line using your machine rather than their laptop. Good Luck! You'll like having DSL even tho' it maybe only a few times faster than your dialup modem. Since I'm over 18K ft from my CO, I only get 113K up/down but I'm happy! |

Anon | Re: I JUST ORDERED!!!!
I'm in the same boat.... just ordered DSL from PSN.net via Northpoint just over 1 month ago (Aug 1). Unfortunately I just discovered DSLReports and have noticed A LOT of negative comments about PSN.
They originally told me that it would take 4-6 weeks. Everytime I check the "status" link for my order, it says "We have run into an unexpected delay in obtaining your new data line. Delays are typically due to a capacity issue specific to your area." I have been calling them several times over the last week and a half for more information. Knowone can give me a straight answer about what the problems are, except to say that I will be put on an urgent status update and someone will call me back. Of course, I never receive any type of feedback as promised. I even tried calling Northpoint directly, but they claim that they don't have any customer order info. All seems unbelievable considering that both of my next door neighbors have DSL for the last several months. I wouldn't feel as bad if I hadn't read the numerous posts about PSN and poor service -- they seem synonomous.
I sincerely hope that the Verizon/BA strike hasn't delayed things too much. I have a terrible feeling that I may still be waiting another month or more down the road......

Anon | I hope it will be better in MD. I live in Northern California, and after "installing" PSN for 2 weeks, my connection still gives me a sad 20 - 40kbps (this is bit, not byte). Customer support said there was a router down and said it would be fixed last Thursday. Obviously, they lied to me. I strongly suggest you to cancel your order and find another bigger ISP. I am trying to cancel mine now, but not sure if I can get my money back... |

Anon | o ya.. bout 1-2 months ago from Northpoint.com i checked my availiblity. and.. it was there. | Ok here is my story. I have been watching DSL reports for a while now and have to add what my experience with this company. I ordered ADSL 416/208 in April 2000 through PSN, line installed by North Point. On May 5th got word from US West (Quest) that they had trouble with my phone junction box because it is old as dirt, My Apt's were built in 1945and the phone box is Ceramic (?), but PSN, and North Point came through. My sales agent Mike ? helped me out by getting me North Points numbers and FINALLY they came out with US West and got my line installed on May 16th!!! I tested my line here and results: ** Speed 596(down)/657(up) kbps ** WOW EVEN BETTER THEN I THOUGHT. Have not experienced any down time, a few glitches getting through to Tech, but I was able to get back intouch with Mike, who I guess is now the Quality Manager at PSN, he just took the job 2 weeks ago or so, and he was able to get Tech to set up my mail server, seems I did not set up Outlook properly. All in All I love PSN and have recommended them to my family and friends, who so far, have had good experiences. Billing has been so far good, they do bill early, but I guess that comes with the territory. I must say give it a chance things do work out if you contact the right people. Keep your fingers crossed |

In all fairness to PSN, I would prefer to play a game of Russian Roulette with 6 rounds in the chaimber than have to deal with them again. If you have good service, it won't last. I am currently getting an average of 200/200 on various DSL test sites, and I get pings in the 1500s! My service was guaranteed at 784/784! I'm currently racking up ping times at various times during the day, every day, so that I can shove it down PSN's throat when they send me a bill. BTW, no one knows better about a business than the better business bureau. http://www.phoenix.bbb.org/report.html?compid=86000913
Cancel your service immediately! (Heh, that is if you can get through to billing) Don't say I didn't warn you. |

Hey, I ordered PSN lets see... ummm... August... and I got it..... ummm.... the end of September which is approx. 5 weeks. Then I got dsl... My ping is fine... 9ms to my schools server which is on a cablevision OC line so I guess thats pretty good. PSN is kinda bad cause their service and support BLOWS... but I mean... I ordered 784 down and 392 up and now I get freakin 700/700 dats like 85%+ full speed. If I download many files I download steadily at 90+kb/sec although it does drop sometimes to 75+kb/sec. Ok... so for me... I do agree that the support sucks but the service is OK. I guess... There were two times my dsl had shitty ping but that was fixed later in the day. Also, I found that using some versions of WinME will fu*k up the dsl service so I suggest you stick with Win98 or Win2k... Win2k works the best (gets the most bandwidth) but if you dont have it use Win98. But another thing besides the shitty support is the crappy services other than DSL... I still dont have an email address. No personal webpage space either. =) I am calling them now. I will come back and read replies to my message. =) Good Luck. |

Anon | OK guys, here's my horrible PSN Nightmare story too... I ordered PSN.NET's service thru the Northpoint Web Site on 20 September 2000, as it was the best value here in the NE Atlanta area. I got an e-mail reply from a Sales Rep named Corey McCormick the very next day. After playing email, phone, and voice-mail tag with him for over a MONTH, he finally reached me at my home to take my Credit Card info on 24 AUGUST 2000. He tried to pressure me into a yearlong contract, which I refused to do. I told him I would go on month-to-month, until I was satisfied with the service, then sign a year contract. He sent me a confirmation email within an hour, with my order number, promising installation in 4 to 6 weeks. Today is 13 OCTOBER 2000, FIFTY DAYS SINCE HE TOOK MY ORDER, AND I HAVE NOT HEARD A THING FROM THEM!!! RIEN, NADA, ZILCH!! They charged my card $75 back in September but have given me NOTHING!! Yes, fellow DSLReports members, I have listened to the smooth jazz flavors of 95.5 KYOT in their Customer Service hold queue for TWO WHOLE WEEKS NOW, calling every day around noon eastern time, putting on the speakerphone, then holding for 90 minutes, until someone mysteriously disconnects the call. My Sales Rep has been out of the office all week, and his voice-mail box is full. I have tried sending faxes to him and to customer service. I have sent numerous emails to install@psn.net and my sales rep, all with no response. I have left feedback postings on their web site. I have also recorded a voice-mail message, asking for order status, and I have left it in the voice-mail box of every man, woman, and child in the company, but I have heard NOTHING since I did this last week! [OK, don't say "I told you so"] Do you guys think it's time to DEMAND a refund of my $75 setup fee and go elsewhere? Or should I cancel that Credit Card and bite the $75 setup fee and feel happy that my subscription was never setup in the first place? I've read the BBB writeup on PSN.NET and it's starting to scare me! Thanks for your help! [Holding his breath] SwervnSteven |
