Re: Close laptop lid -> standby. Open laptop lid -> unstandby???

Here then...I'll make it easy...it can, but that may be hardware-dependent, as with so many other windows functions, which was exactly why I asked which make/model.

... that's not making it easy. So you're suggesting (D)?

Okay. I figured that as well from my googling, and looking at a few laptops here. Logically I'm not sure how Windows gets the notification that you've opened the lid that wakes it from standby... if that's a PME or you need a piece of software to receive a proprietary event.

The hardware (usually micro switch beneath lid latches) tells the software to either go into standby mode or wake up out of it. However as previously suggested it depends on make and model as to whether the switch is wired for both options and if so then the required drivers could be installed to enable it.

But to be able to answer YES or NO to the original question, then the make and model is a requirement.

If you cant fix it, then find something you can. If you cant find something then break something.
