Sheesh, I've put my over-wintered fuschias outside and was thinking of planting some annuals. Guess I'll put the fuschias back into the garage and wait a bit on other plantings!

Looks like it'll get us just a bit here in Mendocino County in Northwestern California, though colder temps will be the main thing it brings us. It was cold here last night, 28, which for getting into mid to late April is pretty chilly, they issued a freeze and frost warning yesterday for NW CA.
It's been an odd Spring, we had an inch of rain in late March, but so far April has been dry, though cold. We've had about 35 inches of rain in Redwood Valley this winter season, and the mountains here (and across Central and the rest of NorCal) are at 120% of normal snowfall, so we'll have a good water year, unlike last year's dismal showing (we only had about half of our normal). -- »www.freightrailworks.org »www.amtrak.com »www.amtrakcalifornia.com »www.metrolinktrains.com »www.up.com »www.bnsf.com »www.aslrra.org/home/index.cfm

| My wife stopped on the way home, put on her chains (first " non-practice" attempt, I think) sat for a couple minutes (steeling herself for to higher hills) decided it was a little better, took off her chains, and made it home safe in only 1.5 hours (12 miles, usually 30 minutes max.)
I was going to BBQ but it's REALLY coming down now, I'd have to shovel my way out there (and it just feels COLD) 27º and falling. Wake me in 63 days (summer starts)

Here, most of the snow had melted by now, but I think it will still be enough for a new record.

1 edit | It's just starting to affect us, the showers are just a couple of hours away at Leggett presently, and it looks to stay cold all week. It's only 42 right now in Redwood Valley, that's very cold for us this time of year!
Statement as of 4:21 AM PDT on April 19, 2008
... Unseasonably cold weather expected across northwest California this weekend...
A cold area of low pressure aloft currently over British Colombia will settle southwards over Oregon and Washington later this afternoon.
Rain showers will begin to develop across northern portions of northwest California this morning... with shower activity increasing through the afternoon and evening hours for the remainder of the region. Rain will begin to mix with snow later this afternoon as unseasonably cold air filters into the region through the day.
Snow levels will lower from around 3500 to 4000 feet in the morning down to 2500 feet by the late afternoon. Snow levels will lower further late Saturday night to between 1500 and 2500 feet. With warm ground temperatures in place... only brief snow accumulations of up to an inch are expected.
With low freezing levels... elevations down to the coast may see small hail or a light snow mix in heavier showers Saturday night and during the day on Sunday.
Freezing overnight temperatures are expected tonight and Sunday night... especially in regions sheltered from wind. Efforts should be undertaken to move or cover plants which are susceptible to the cold. Motorists traveling through the region this weekend should be prepared for cold temperatures... slippery and hazardous driving conditions. For the latest weather information check NOAA Weather Radio or www.Weather.Gov/Eureka.

2 edits | Re: Spring in the NW???? It's only 38 here right now, for 8 PM on April 19th, that's abnormally cold for this area. The Vineyards are all starting to bud out, and the Pear Trees are in bloom, I'm sure those growers are not too happy tonight, I'll have to cover some things up in our yard for sure.
