[Speed] Double the Download Speed -- New Lower Price

We've been very busy over the past few months investing in and upgrading our Broadband network. Our goal is to offer you the best and fastest Internet service and I am proud of our recent efforts. Now, I want the BBR community to be the very first to hear some great new news.

You may recall a few months ago that we began offering a blazing 20 meg upgrade option to our Broadband customers. You might also recall that we limited the number of customers, on a first-come-first-serve basis, to 4% of our potential. We did that to ensure that we had ample bandwidth provisioned and in place to reliably deliver this great new service. We are thrilled with the network's performance and now we are eliminating the 4% limitation.

We are so excited about our new super-fast service, we want you to be able to enjoy its benefits at a much lower price. Effective immediately, we are lowering the incremental premium-service price you pay from $20 per month to $10! Same blazing speeds at half the additional cost.

There is no need to contact us if you already subscribe to Broadband 20.0--your next bill will be reduced by $10. If you want to upgrade to Broadband 20.0, contact your local Insight office or visit our website.

The BBR community has been invaluable at helping us create one of the fastest and highly rated ISP's in the business. As a token of our appreciation for your input and your business, I posted this message to give you a little advance notice in case you are interested in ordering Broadband 20.0 before we begin to advertise it widely.

I hope you will always remember that if you have any comments or questions about all of our services, please feel free to email me at my address listed in my BBR user profile. Your comments are always welcome.

I'd like folks to take a look at Michael's latest post on his blog here:

Particularly read the comments as I'm the writer ~RC there,
this is my BBR account. I can say without hesitation that when you mention something is wrong, and the CEO himself follows up on the issue - it's greatly appreciated. It really shows things are being handled at the top most levels with a personal touch and in a intelligent manner.

- Edit -
(Please don't spam Mr. Willner with a multitude of minor issues that could be solved by tech support just because my story came to a happy resolution. Let's not mess up a good thing here...)
- Edit -

Looking forward to being an Insight regular in the next couple months. ^_^

Does anyone know if the speed increase also offers increase speeds to news groups? On my 10 Mb connection, I see about 1.5 Mb down. I would consider upgrading for higher speeds to news groups.

I'll be honest, the money I planned to use for getting the blazing 20 meg upgrade option is being used instead to pay for the higher price of gas for my car.

Here's a question I'd like some feedback on - are people with the 20 mb package getting better latency after the upgrade than before, or is it the same?

I haven't entirely objectively tested it, but my speeds and latencies actually got worse after the upgrade. I used to get the solid 10/1 connection, but now my average speed is down to about 8/1, sometimes even 6/1 -- not something I'm too pleased to be paying an extra $10/month for. That being said, I haven't invested any time in testing in accurately, ruling out my router as the cause, or calling Insight for follow-up. For what it's worth, I don't see any reason that your latency would improve with the change.

I will say on most sites I visit (of course insight cant control other sites traffic) but based on those I get about 30ms-50ms range. Theres times when Im better and times when It can be worse but I would say most average is in the 30-50ms zone.

Matt is that after or before an upgrade to 20 service or are you just on a 10 line?

I've been told that to get more stable and lower latency, it's best to have over 1 MB both ways. So I was looking for some hard evidence tis all.

30~50 though would still make me really happy, I'm in the 100 to 2000 group with Sprint service which is about to get the boot.

Did some testing and my router is the culprit. I'll check again after I get a new one soon -- getting about 14Mbps of the download speed with the router in-line and 20Mbps without it.

What brand of router do you use? I'm thinking of upgrading, and I'd like to know what to avoid.

In reply to the before and after ping times when I first joined the upgrade to 20.0 (when it first started) it was not working well. However all the kinks have been fixed and things are working now. Heres tonights examples to this site and chicago test.

Pinging www.dslreports.com [209.123.109.175] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=39ms TTL=48

Ping statistics for 209.123.109.175:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Im using a Netgear WPN824 V2 Router (however im using it wired) and a SB5120 Modem

Thanks, now I'll just need to go back and find some posts for the 10 mg service and compare latency.

I was having the same issue. Untill I upgraded the firmware on my router. Im using a Linksys. Also I set my wireless to G only and that helped my wireless speeds top the 20M.

I have insight at home and work for charter.
