It was for the discount, not the service

The way I read the article was the person was trying to get the triple play discount and Verizon wouldn't give the discount without the phones being on their service.

Want a discount, play by their rules and all providers do this.

For example, want a fast speed with Brighthouse, you HAVE to have digital cable and for the top teir there phone service, its the exact same thing

that is not the way that i read it, MattE hit the nail on the head, its another case of a sales person doing whatever he/she needs to do to get there commission which is what a lot of sales people do which is immoral.

Agreed. It's typical for Sales in most industries to oversell or orverstate something, and the people in the office have to pick up the pieces. That's SOP.

I am in the same boat as you, i trust a sales person about as far as i can throw them. Unfortunately it is a tough job and someone has to do it. Glad its not me.

Yes, but according to the article, the buyer was told that he had to switch *all three* phone lines to Verizon. As I understand "Triple Play" (which I don't have any personal experience with since DSL isn't even available in my area), you get a "package" discount for buying one phone line, television, and Internet. The buyer was attempting to get FIOS and transfer TWO phone lines, and was told that he couldn't have FIOS unless he transferred his THIRD phone line as well.

If he had wanted the "triple play" discount but refused to buy a single phone line, I'd see your point. But, as I understand "triple play", he more than met the criteria for the discount, even buying one more phone line than he technically needed to.

The original article doesn't actually mention triple play at all, just that the supervisor refused to activate the FIOS *at all* without the transfer of all three phone lines to Verizon. But even if it had been a "triple play" issue, the user more than met the criteria.
