| VPN connecting but can't see server
I'm almost a total novice with servers and VPNs so this may be super-obvious, but I can't figure it out... I am using Mobile User VPN to connect to our office network (where we have some type of a WatchGuard Firebox installed, preconfigured by the ISP). I am able to connect. I can ping the server. But I can't actually figure out how to get into the server and access any files. I've tried searching for the IP on the network and searching for the computer name, using the share name, etc. but it just isn't coming up.
Does anyone have any idea what I would do to access the server and files? It seems like this should be easy once I'm connected but I just can't figure it out. -- Killers and liars welcome |

| If you can ping a computer by IP address, what happens if you try to access the server by typing \\ followed by the IP address into the address bar of a windows explorer window (ie open My Computer, in the address bar put \\192.168.1.123 or whatever.) If the address bar isn't visible then set view->toolbars->address bar

| I get: Windows cannot find '\\192.168.0.17'. Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the Start button and then clicking Search. -- Killers and liars welcome |

| reply to Sarah Is it possible the remote network, ie. your office VPN, is using the same address space your connecting from?
Example:
Office in the 192.168.0.X space and your home LAN is also using the 192.168.0.X address space. -- "When all else fails, read the instructions..." MS-MVP Windows Desktop User Experience |

| reply to Sarah Problem resolved... my provider had to change some setting in the Firebox. (No comment on it taking them 2-3 days to figure that out while I beat my head against the wall)
Thanks for the suggestions. -- Killers and liars welcome |
