Something screwy going on with alltel....

Ok so I'm monitoring my download using a graph in shareaza.

What's happening is it's downloading a little bit. Then stopping. Then downloading a little bit. Then stopping.

It does this for every file and sometimes even says I'm not connected, but I still am.

Even some webpages will load up, but no pictures will show and I'll have to refresh.

This is very recent as 2 days ago I downloaded a 1.6GB file perfectly fine.

WTF is going on with alltel? This is getting more annoying then my HughesNet.

This go stop go stop crap is killing my download speed and heck even my ability to download.

  GRRR this is so annoying.

Things like webpages that I normally visit that use php are now trying to download instead of just visit the website.

WTH? I read they're using some sort of proxy and caching websites now.

*sigh* good service gone down the drain.. now I'm screwed into a 2yr contract.. hughesnet screwed me.. now alltel.. can't trust any company these days.

Well I an 100% confirm the stupid proxy.

Speed tests don't even detect me anywhere near where I live like they used to. (speedtest.net, etc)

My speeds are also half of what they used to be. This is just great. Is this their idea of "improving" the network?

OLD
Average Download: 1539 kb/s
Average Upload: 100 kb/s

NEW
Average Download: 536 kb/s
Average Upload: 109 kb/s

Well hey looky there I got 9 more on upload! AWESOME.. /sarcasm off.. thanks alltel

Google "OpenDNS" and set it up and avoid the proxy.

After viewing how to setup DNS you could also use Level 3’s open DNS servers.

Just pick and two :

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
4.2.2.3
4.2.2.4
4.2.2.5
4.2.2.6

Is this going to fix the fact that my download speeds have literally been chopped in half?

I just called support and the guy didn't see anything wrong and told me to call back tomorrow during the hours that the data tech guys are in so they can better assist me.

I just don't wanna be jerked around on a chain like HughesNet did. This is so aggravating to have so awesome speeds then it suddenly turns to garbage.

I don't think so, looks like they are filtering through the IP now that I have checked. I will run a traceroute and see what I find!

I'll be calling them up today with the option to either fix it or I cancel and do a chargeback for every amount they charged me.

Not dealing with this crap anymore. HughesNet took all my patience and kindness. Time to be the pissed off customer who calls 10 times a day.

Hopefully it's just some temp thing or something, but this STOP GO STOP GO crap on my downloads is making them take 3-4 times as long.. on top of that there is possibility of corruption and my speeds are halved..

They must be experimenting with RevA, because I just got a RevA signal. The STOP GO STOP GO of my downloads is the result of it bouncing between DO and RA from the looks of it.

I just hope it gets sorted out and I can actually connect at a stable rate. I'd love to have RevA, but I'd also love my stable 1.5mb DO back even if I have to give up RevA. It's no good to me if it's going to screw up constantly.

Alrighty well I called them and got transfered a good 5 times.

After repeating the same story I got to a nice fella who tried to do what he can.

He managed to increase my download speed by 400kbs, but it's still not stable.

It does STOP GO STOP GO still, but he did say if it continues for more then a week to deff take it in and get it checked out. He put a note on my account so I can get it exchanged if I want and so the other guys know what's wrong with it.

He said they've been experimenting with RevA and a bunch of other changes to the network, but the STOP GO STOP GO shouldn't be happening.

I'm guessing there might be something wrong with the modem and will go get it replaced if it continues to act screwy.

Really bad storm yesterday jolted the power so that might have something to do with it.
