Mediacom's Screw up

Okay I wake up on Monday to find out that half of my basic cable package is out.

Turns out that 4 years ago Mediacom gave us the extended package and just now figured out that weren't suppose to have it.

now I lost the scifi channel and A&E.

Good thing they don't want back-payments!

So is it that time of year where Mediacom audits the system? Or did a tech visit to your home just happen to spot the issue?

I thought they did an audit every year, atleast here in Des Moines. I recall that they had an ex-employee that actually was selling and installing illegal cable hookups many years ago.

My guess is that you probably have a digital box and your area went to all digital and that the box is saying not authorized on the expanded channels.

Probably got caught in the audit round, every house is "supposed" to be audited once a year. This happened in Moline a while back, the lady had free expanded for 20 years, you can say that she was miffed.

There isn't an all digital area anywhere at Mediacom yet.

All-digital no, if your definition means no analog channels broadcast for anyone. But in many (most really) areas we have full digital simulcast. That means every analog channel is also broadcast in Digital. Where possible these are received and broadcast in digital. So if you have a digital box, you are getting an all-digital lineup. If you have two TVs, one with a box and one without, then those two TVs are actually watching completely separate signals when tuned to the same broadcast channel (if that make sense.)

This has happened in Waverly,IA Everybody I knew that was paying the $10-$12 a month was getting all 70some channels.

It happened a few years ago. I had HSI and that basic package that they made you get. I had DISH so I didn't really care.. I think I remember a HSI/cable outage in the entire town and when they fixed it, BAM, free cable.

They are just getting around to catching it, as several friends and relatives have "lost" their channels.

I wonder how wide spread that is and how much potential $$ was lost.
