Very Simple:
Get RASPPPoE [ »www.raspppoe.com/ ]
Install it, following their instructions.
When you have the first connection created, test it. Make sure you save the password. Once you confirmed that works, go in the properties and the options tab of the connection. (Disconnect before doing this)
1- Take note of the number being dialed by the connection.
2- Add a checkbox on the 2nd network card you have hooked up to your 2nd line.
3- Check the box that makes all modems dial the same number and enter the number you wrote down in step 1.
4- Change the dial strategy to always dial all devices.
Take off checkmark to prompt username & password.
Set retry dialing to a high number ex. 9999999.
Set retry interval to 3 seconds.
Click ok and test your connection.
It will probably connect but give you a line bundling error. Simply click on accept. Connection icon on lower right in taskbar and open it. Click on the details tab.
You should see on the bottom, a drop down with all your dsl lines and a button that changes between suspend and resume. Find which line failed to bundle and click on resume. If you set the settings the way I set them, it will essentially redial the failed line indefinitely until it connects. At which point you should be in business.
Forgot to add, if you experience bad troughput when doing mlppp on windows, you will probably want to change the mtu of the raspppoe protocol on each of your network adapters to something like 1452. I am still investigating the need for such a low value. |

Um Vinch I wanted to use 1 modem MLPP sure i won;t get extra speed but i was hoping the packets would confuddle bell further  what u suggested is confusing i assume MLpp standard under xp? |

Ok, using the RASPPPOE method,
have the first modem hooked into a network card, on my 2k3 box
Have my 2k3 box hooked up to the first LAN port on my switch
Have my 2nd modem hooked up to the 2nd LAN port on my switch
I also have Internet Connection Sharing enabled. I know its not a step but for my network, its how I am getting the internet out to everyone else on the switch.
I've followed Vinch's instructions to the letter, it does prompt me, saying the 2nd line failed. However, when I try to get it to redial, it just gives error 633, device is in use.
So.. whats next?

Tomato firmware that supports dual modems, is being released today.. Gonna try that out tonite.
Failing that, I've purchased another NIC and I'll try to install it on my server to get the modem hooking up to both interfaces... Maybe my server just doesn't like the 2nd modem being on the switch.. |

How would I do this with a modem connected to a voip box. When I try to create a connection and query available services using raspppoe it comes back with a "no service offers received" error even though I'm connected.

If your modem is doing PPPoE then you can't do it. Your modem and router must be two separate units. Or, if you have no router, your modem must be in bridge mode. |

@teksavvy.com | I believe that my modem is in bridge mode in order for the voip hardware to sign me into Teksavvy. Are you saying this can only be done through a router? If so I guess I'll have to buy one.

I'm pretty sure my modem is in bridge mode to allow for my VOIP box to connect to Teksavvy for me. Can this be done without a router?

I could be incorrect but I don't believe this is the case, what voip box do you have? Does it have more than 1 Ethernet jack in it? 3 or more? |

Afterwards I couldn't connect to Teksavvy and through my troubleshooting with Tech support I had to reset my modem then put it into bridge mode to be able to connect through my VOIP box. This worked. Now I am left woundering how I can make MLPPP work to avoid some unpleasantness that I am experiencing.

You are indeed right. I assume the VOIP box is also connected to a switch.
- Connect the modem to that switch (instead of the voip box).
- Connect both sides of the VOIP box to that switch.
- Connect your computers to the switch.
You should at this point have internet access on all systems.
Retry the MLPPP configuration. |
