If I port my home phone number, which has Qwest DSL on it, to another provider, is Qwest going to disconnect the DSL service as well?
I want to keep the DSL, I just no longer need their POTS service. |

| yes they will. Your phone number is also your DSL circuit ID. Therefore if your number goes away the DSL will have to also. What i would do is order a stand alone DSL circuit before you disconnect. When your new dsl circuit is up and running then, port your main line. So the stand alone circuit would act as a 2nd DSL circuit for the time being. Does that make sence? |

From my understanding, yes, they will drop the entire line from your account. I did the same thing last year and I just ordered a 2nd pair to the house with dsl only and when that was up and running, ported over the number from the first line and all was well with no down time. And I went from qualifying for only 1.5 to 3meg now so it turned out even better for me. |

join:2005-01-25 | Dropping the DSL when porting your number may not have to happen. I have recently seen orders come thru just dropping the dial tone and leaving the DSL in place, and changing the account number. YMMV. |

Hopefully I can get them to do it right. Our Muni provider has a local phone package with CallerID, Call Waiting, and Call Forwarding for $12.95 a month. That's just too good to pass up, especially in light of my recent 5 day Qwest outage that would have been 8 days if I hadn't been relentless in pressing them to fix it faster. |

Just to point out, that "price for life" does have fine print that if you alter or suspend services, it may cancel the contract and you may be charged. A few people on this forum were apparently caught off guard by not reading the brief fine print on this. |

It does sound too good to be true. But note that it's LOCAL calls only, so you can only call one of the 7,000 or so people in our town. I only want it for incoming calls, I'm going to use VOIP for outgoing. |

| I read the agreement, and it states that they may charge the standalone price, which makes sense. I knew I would lose the bundled price. It should not automatically break the contract resulting in an early termination fee. What Qwest actually does is anyones guess, they've never been known for trying to keep customers happy. |

I only want it for incoming calls, I'm going to use VOIP for outgoing. In the end I would save a whopping $4.04 per month. The catch is that they don't tell you about the extra fees, like the LNP fee to keep your Qwest phone number. I'll stick with Qwest, at least I know what to expect with them, and know that E911 will work if I ever need it. |

The problem with that though is that he would no longer have that number for his account, so he wouldn't be able to port it. |
