| IBMThinkpad 23 and wifi
Gave my daughter my IBM Thinkpad23. Had a tech install a new Trendnet wifi card. The wifi card does work, but sometimes something gets hung up if she's been using other wifi besides school and home. The right connection shows up, but no browser (Firefox or Opera) will connect unless we tweak the connection by guess and by golly. Her husband had a Compaq laptop with the same wifi card, and he doesn't seem to have the problem.
I have a Dell Latitude and have no problem. I'm not sure if it's the IBM laptop or the combination of the IBM laptop and the Trendnet card. Anyone else ever had this type of problem?

| Not with that combination at all, however, very similar on an older notebook I used to have in work. Very similar situation with a Toshiba laptop, equipped with a Netgear wifi card. No rhyme or reason, I could run the card in another lappy and not replicate the problem, and I could occasionally get it to run right in my notebook, but it would always be "quirky".
Then is gave up and used an older USB wifi connecter I had laying around...no problems!
Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to fight city Hall, you know? If you can still return the card, I would jsut try a different one, or even just go to a USB wireless connector.

I kinda had that feeling. What application actually shows what networks are available? If I turn on the Dell, a list of wifi networks will pop up. Is that coming from the wifi card? The trendnet cards show nothing, not even ours. The Sony Clie used to keep a list of all networks ever connected to.
How can you tell which card will show what?

| If your wireless network adapter is working, and recognized by the OS, you will have an icon in your system tray, or, go to Start - Connect To...either way, that will give you a "Connect to Network" box, again, if the adpater is working, you will see a list of any networks it detects.
Being in an apartment complex, I generally pick up 6 to 8 networks, not counting my own.
