You shouldn't need to write the hard drive to 0's to get windows to work correctly. Just boot to the repair disk and run a destructive repair. It will format your computer and install windows. |

| Of course, the other question is why did it crash? Was it a software glitch, a hard drive gone bad, a memory problem, etc.?
Do you have a solid idea just what went wrong in the first place? If it is a hardware issue, that has to be addressed before worrying about the recovery disk. -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

| If you want to erase the hard drive, download a program called DBAN and install it to whichever medium you want, CD or floppy. It will completely rewrite your hard drive. Nothing will be recoverable. You can try your reinstall disks after that. If they don't work, you have a hardware problem. |

When you boot up with a recovery disk, you are using it's drivers, not anything on the hard drive, yes? -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

| u just may be right but lol do u or does anyone know the keys to rewriting the hard drive to 0's on a compaq notebook I'm going to call them and reorder the recovery disk for this system because i think u maybe right it just may be an error mes about a bad driver file on the recovery disk and i did not think about that because it does go right to the error mes and does not even try to load windows off the cd |
