I used to be under an old Telus high speed contract at 2.5 mbps. Now I renewed to a new term at 3mbps. but I see no change in throughput speed. It remained the same at around 260k. Is this something I should complain about or is 2.5 and 3mbps the same thing. |

| The speeds should come out somewhat differently. These are the highest practical tested speeds you should be getting with each plan:
2.5: 2560 times 85% due to overhead, divided by 8 for bits to bytes: 272 kilobytes a second
3.0: 3072 times 85% due to overhead, divided by 8 for bits to bytes: 326 kilobytes a second
If you're still getting 260kB/s, then it's possible the switch hasn't gone through yet or got lost somewhere in the system. It's also possible that your signal is borderline and unable to sync fast enough to give you full 3.0 speed. If you have access to your modem, post your line stats. Otherwise, you may want to give telus a call and double check that the order to switch you to 3.0 got fully put through. |

| reply to HDgeorge You said you were on an old contract with Telus - is it possible you have a really old generation modem that doesnt support your 3mbps? If you do, call them up and get a new one like the Thomson Speedtouch 516v6 or the (Not so recommended) 2Wire Wireless Gateway/Modem/Router. |
