[Rant] Legalities of ISP packet sniffing

Many ISPs are deploying packet sniffing software to throttle traffic. I wonder what the legal implications are in such. Could this be a form of wire tapping. Does my packet have a right to privacy? A packet is like a letter with several sealed envelopes within. If you open up the outer envelope you are violating my privacy.

do it

@videotron.ca
Which is why you should support CAIP's filing to the CRTC, if you haven't already.

»Help CAIP in it's CRTC submission re throttling via Bell

I agree... NO ISP should do this!

Of course it's illegal, it's right there in the communications act, and highly unethical but when it comes to the internet in this country there seems to be very little consumer protection and privacy laws and the Rogers and Bells are are foaming at the mouth and fully taking advantage of this and are abusing the Canadian owned telecommunications spectrum way beyond what is acceptable.

The government on this issue looks like a bunch of deer caught in the headlights and have no clue what to do or even what's going on.

Yea the CRTC are apparently involved but they're still figuring out the impact of the rotary dial and DOS 3.1

As to why there is not an immediate outcry from the Privy Council Office, the Justice department, the Communications, department or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for that matter on this issue is very troubling.

No it's not look at the government we have? They muzzle everything, so in the name of big business, they'll allow Bell and Robbers to get away with murder
