Downgrading to dsl lite

I agreed to a one year agreement to stay with them over the phone to get a new modem and was wondering would that agreement still be valid if i downgraded to dsl lite?

At the time you signed up was Lite the same deal?

If yes then likely yes... you can as long as you remain some customer for the year.

But if it was a condition of service level, lite didn't offer... then likely they will nail you.

Easy but annoying sollution... call, HOLD.......................................... and ASK.

I think you'll be fine like Hayward says, but can't hurt to call and ask

I wouldn't beleive anything they say even if you call because there are two separate terms/conditions. the first states that you only qualify for a free modem with Ultra (1.5) and above.

The other clause says that in order to not be charged you must keep service for 12 months (without mentioning a specific tier).

If you agreed to that term of service with a tech support rep, there is no way for them to enforce it. As a tech support rep, if a customer balks at the price of a modem, we can offer a free one if they verbally commit to one year of service. They are supposed to put it in their call notes, but there is no billing code or anything that a tech support rep can put on the account to make sure that you will be billed if you cancel before the year is up. Most likely, as long as you keep some kind of DSL service, you won't have to worry.

If you do it you'd better do it before they begin charging $5 to talk to a billing customer service individual.
