| Goodbye Telus!
So after telus gave me run around about not being able to get hdtv, then the runaround about not being able to get 6.0. I gave teksavvy a call, my telus disconnected just after midnight, teksavvy came on around 9. And its running at 6.0
I didn't really have anything against telus, but living right downtown, it seems rather weird they didn't want to upgrade anything. Goodbye 3.0mbps internet |

@telus.net | You aren't the only one. Many people are told they can't get 6 mbps until they check with a wholesaler/reseller. |

In the last couple of years, I've been told that 6.0 "is not available in your area". I find that hard to believe, also because I used to be on an ADSL2+ port.
Even though at the moment we are quite happy with 3.0, I cannot help but wonder why telus would try to prevent customers from paying a higher rate? There must be a reason. |

| reply to zod5000 I was switched to a new port (and my DNS changed to pctv.telus.net) and I can't get 6mbit either. Or Telus TV. So I gave in and ordered cable TV.
I wonder if they need to test individual lines or something before they'll let you sign up for extreme. |

There must be a reason. I don't know if it's done on purpose (maybe they prefer you to be on 3.0? its only $5 more for twice the bandwidth) or if its general incompetence of the customer service reps.
When I called them up they couldn't tell me if 6.0 was possible until I was hooked up with 3.0 first, then once I was connected they said I was ineligible for 6.0 but eligible for telus tv. It seems a little fishy... |

| It is very odd that you can actrually get 6mb spd as when TELUS assign u the 3.0 port, it can only go that high and no way to go over and above. When TELUS tells u they can't give u 6.0, is either the equipment is not enough to provide 2+ port or simply u r too far away from the centeral office, as giving u 6.0 w/ a 60 db lost line doesn't help |

| JammerMan79, How did OP get 6.0 from Teksavvy when TELUS cannot? I thought Teksavvy is using TELUS copper pair and dslam. |

| Not too sure, some resellers simply use telus' copper and rent space in the c/o. They'll have their own port and equipment from there on. I've heard that some other resellers have already rented the hardware and it's being held for them, essentially they've already paid for the plan.
The are various reasons why Telus may not be providing the 6.0 service, I just don't want to go into it all over again. They've been posted numerous times before.

| reply to yvrwindsor 6.0 ports, as far as I understand, can be 'reserved' for TELUS TV customers, and therefore 6.0 may not be available, even if TELUS has the 2+ port available. It's a marketing decision - if there is a limited number right now, I think the company would rather sell TV than Extreme. Perhaps TELUS can't block Teksavvy from accessing these ports, though. |

| reply to yvrwindsor TELUS has theoretical loop qualification that typically determine speeds and then other systems determine port availability. If the account isn't flagged as eligible the CSRs can't do anything about it. It's better to error on the side of caution and not provide it then to provide it and end up with service calls and troubles and a pissed off customer after the fact.
Also, being that Teksavvy is a small company, they can micromanage their customer base a little easier. |

| reply to zod5000 I don't really get the specifics behind dsl, but i have been told what teksavvy only uses telus for the last mile (which i'm guessing means from the CO to my apartment). So I would guess that Jammerman's post that they might rent out part of the CO, including adsl2+ ports might be the case.
On a positive note I got a goodbye present from telus today. They sent me a phone line serge protector for a 2wire modem. They letter says I have a 2wire, but what I have from telus is a 300g? But i'm guessing it'd work anyways |

| reply to zod5000 I'm relatively positive Teksavvy doesn't have any of their own equipment in Telus' COs and they use Telus' DSLAMs and 2+ ports. Same as they do with Bell back east. If they had their own equipment in place they wouldn't be suffering from the throttling issues back east with Bell.
They do however have their own pipe to the outside world after it goes through all of Telus' equipment. I'm sure if you ask in the Teksavvy forum someone could better inform you of what they use to provide service. |
