HL2 SP mods

Looking for more of these as I am enjoying the Get-a-Life mod.

Here's a few I can recommend:

Metastasis- probably THE Half-Life 2 Mod to get. It does nothing new in terms of gameplay, but it's got some exemplary level design and just enough story to keep you wondering.

Coastline to Atmosphere- very lengthy Mod. A bit repetitive, a bit aggravating in places, and a bit confusing at times, but it's probably one of the largest Mods I've seen for the game yet, and I definitely recommend it.

Mistake of Pythagoras- definitely something out of left field, as it completely turns the standard HL2 experience on its head. Yet I love playing it! If you played "Peaces Like Us" or "Sweet Half-Life" from HL1- this is the same guy.

Dolores- This one creeps me out. You're a little girl with a special ability, in a big dark house with a terrible secret. It can be difficult, but I think it's worth it.

Cinematic Mod- yeah, it just dressed up HL2 and Episode 1 nice and pretty. Really pretty. Really, REALLY pretty. If you've got the hardware to handle the textures I say give it a try.

SMOD Tactical- Sort of a branch-off of the rather silly SMOD, Tactical puts a number of real-world guns in your hands and tightens up the rules considerably. Headshots WILL kill you, and your gun is wildly inaccurate unless you use its iron sights (complete with affected peripheral vision). Great if you want to make HL2 a bit more complex and dangerous.

You could also give HMS Defiance, Riot Act and The Citizen a go- while not the best Mods out there, they're worth a play at the very least.

I enjoyed Get A Life quite a bit myself. And yes, I jumped when I saw the "human spiders" .

Some of these look pretty interesting. Not a lot of info on the official sites. I'll give Minerva, Mistake of Pythagoras, and Dolores a try.

I wasn't too impressed with Get A Life. Story was sketchy.

Yes, same here. WAAY out of touch. Also Oblivion 2006 - 2008 (including KotN, Shivering Isles). HL2, Episodes 1 and 2, Portal (awesome!). Will try Mistake of Pythagoras, Minerva.

Found them here: »www.hl2mods.co.uk/index.php. Some of the links need membership (but others are free).

Thanks! Now I feel even more out of touch. I started Minerva-Metastasis last night. For my first 'mod', it's awesome. An excellent refresher on why I got HL2 in the first place.

Just finished the mod - nicely done in all. Some odd parts that are either bugs or the timing is off enough to cause some frustration.

I am now playing Coastline to Atmosphere and lost - I have to find a card key in an outside office. I believe I have found the office but I have NO idea where the key is. Seems to be a large safe in the office and a bathroom but other than that - nothing.

Any one have any hints?

Free health care is 100% a misnomer - it is not free and never will be free.

Just finished (Minerva: Metastasis). I saw some rendering problems with pipes and body parts stuck in walls, but timing was OK. Forces you to really think strategy and to not depend on a certain weapon that was in the original game.

For SP mods, I run at absolute minimum XP. I have a batch file that takes the PC offline and stops a lot of unnecessary services. When done, I put everything back. No glitches or delays.

If you have timing problems, it might help to run the video benchmark in HL2 Lost Coast. I'm over 100 fps. That's a topic for the PC Gaming Tech forum: »PC gaming Tech

I get over 100 FPS's as well - it is a newer system and with a newer video card than when I first ran the Lost Coast benchmark - went from a 7900 GS to a 9600 GT.

I did get the key - found that the system told me I did not find it yet I had not even gotten to the place that held the key.

Got to only map 7 and C to A is now impossible - too many Combine and to few health and weapons. that is only halfway thru...

I'm having some weird fade in/out oddities with objects and NPCs fading out when I'm about 15-20 feet or more at the C2A map section on the second map where you need to find a car to continue on the second area after the gate opens.

I need to get closer to see the combine but when I'm not, I'm seeing floating weapons in the air. I don't know why this happens but it's really killing immersion.

I think I remember running into this issue as well. I was never sure if it was either a mapping bug (the NPCs aren't "activated" until you approach them) or an engine problem due to the wide-open and rather architecturally "busy" area.

Once you get through that section you shouldn't see it come up too much.

That's the only spot I've noticed it happen so far and trying to deal with invisible combine (both weapon and body) is a pain.

I did not have that issue but America's Army did that as well at times.

In cases such as that, I find it morally acceptable to plug in the ol' godmode cheat.
