[DIRECTV] Keep Cable Broadband, Drop Cable TV, Add DirectTV???

Hello All,

I've been trying to comb through posts to find an answer and haven't been lucky enough to find someone in my situation. So, if this question has already been asked, just point me to the post that answers my inquiry and go along quietly.

Right now we have time warner cable, with HD suite, and broadband. My 1080p plasma is just not getting the input of HD channels it needs from timewarner. So, a co-worker said he'd had DirectTV for a long while and loved all the HD programming. So, I've been looking all over the DirectTV site today trying to learn up on sat HD tv.

We have coaxial running to four rooms currently with coaxial drops for TV, one of those room has the HD box. One of the rooms has a splitter for a small TV and the cable modem.

Is it possible to keep the timewarner cable broadband, drop time warner TV, and get direct TV installed?

Furthermore, will all new cable runs have to be made by direct tv? And do they get pissy if they do have to run new cable?

Finally, do they charge lots to make multiple cable runs?

Thank you so much for all your wisdoms,

Ian

You will need a satellite receiver for each TV. $5 a month fee after the first TV. I would think they will run new cables. I had DISH set up 4 tv's at my house and they did not mind. If you are willing to pay they are willing to install what ever you want.

You can have DirecTv and Time Warner internet. They need to run 1 new coax to the room where the internet and tv are split because they can not share the coax. DirecTv can reuse the coax in all the other rooms as long as they are RG6 cable. You will need a receiver for each TV. Currently I have 95 HD channels and they look better than cable. The only thing you have to get use to is the rain and snow fade, otherwise it's great.

...rain and snow fade?

I heard that was a thing of the past and not really an issue anymore. I live in N.C. and we (usually) get lots of rain.

Happens from time to time if a really bad storm hits but only lasts a few minutes. These happen few are far between. I would say in my 11 years with DTV and DISH I may have had rain fade 6 times. Not an issue to worry about. Just make sure you have a strong signal when the dish is installed.

I am actually thinking of doing the same thing now that I am not getting the discount on Comcast HSI, I went with a business account for more speed, and the Package from DirecTV will give me 51 HD channels with locals, and Comcast is giving me 26 HD channels with locals. I priced it out and found that Comcast is charging me $81/month for 1 HDTV w/ box, and 2 tv's with no box. I can get a lot more channels from DTV for $79/month, for the 1 HDTV and 2 regular tvs.

In all likelihood, TW will tack on $15/mo or so for stand alone HSI without TV, I know Comcast does.

And if you go for DISH, you can get 4 set locations for only one extra $5 receiver fee, as they have dual tuner/location receivers. (Behave as single tuner when using both locations live)

These days you don't need multiple satelites. We have 3 tv's (1 hd) running from one satelite. Also, when we had a storm ( i live in Los Angeles). The only channels affected were the hd channels, all sd channels worked wonderfully
