| But what about the existing ISP's that already have the wireless business namely "linksys" and "netgear"?
Just about every place I take a wireless device one of those names shows up and it is usually unsecured. -- I support the right to keep and arm bears. |

More locations will come online as they deploy it! |

The web page describing the WiFi system is silent about the SSID used.
I assume its obvious once you do a site search, but I'd be happy to configure it now if I knew it. |

I know because i have used it when i am at starbucks in huntington village during lunch. The ssid is optimumwifi. (its fnny because this starbucks has their own pay wireless lol)
All cablevision is doing is expanding their wireless network to include more areas. |

| reply to mws192 In the article you linked to, they quote $500 per hotspot. Wouldn't it take tons of them to cover "the entire Cablevision footprint?"
A more reasonable plan in my mind would to just expand their existing hotspots to include more areas, but even all of Long Island, let alone parts of NJ, CT and Upstate NY seems too aggressive for WiFi technology. |

| said by digitaldoc77 :In the article you linked to, they quote $500 per hotspot. I doubt it is anything on that scale, since that figure is for 1 hot spot and includes the cost of say a T1. Given their economies of scale, the cost won't be anywhere that high. Also if the article is correct, you will not be using the same antennas as a normal hot spot, ie these will cover much larger areas per set-up. -- Warning, If you post nonsense and use misinformation and are here to argue based on those methods, you will be put on ignore. |

I've been freely using wifi for 5 years. How is that new? |
