Adobe Security Advisory:
- Potential vulnerability in After Effects CS3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

APSB08-13 - Security Update available for Adobe Reader and Acrobat 7 and 8

Originally posted: May 6, 2008

Summary:
Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 8.1.1 and earlier versions. These vulnerabilities would cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. Adobe recommends users of Acrobat 8 and Adobe Reader install the 8.1.2 update and users of Acrobat
7 install the 7.1.0 update to protect themselves from potential vulnerabilities. This is an update to resolve the issues previously reported in Security Advisory APSA08-01.

Adobe recommends that users apply the relevant updates to their installations. Learn more:

Thanks for the update. For the time being when trying to access the update links it comes up with

We're sorry, the site area you've requested is unavailable due to scheduled maintenance. Please try again later.

Wasn't version 8.1.2 released a while back, and I believe also to address a (possibly also critical) security issue? A lot of people should have that version already probably just based on that.

Re: Adobe Security Advisory:

I thought it was released awhile back also like the first week of February.

I currently use Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard and the manual updater only takes me as far as 6.0.6. This is after a fresh install of XP Pro and SP3 update.

Prior to the new installation the updater installed 7.0 thru 8.1. by automatic update.

I have searched the Adobe site and the best I can ascertain is that I may have to pay for an updated version.

I have to admit that the Adobe site leaves me a bit bewildered.

Can anyone enlightening me as to Adobe policy?

Does an upgrade from Adobe Reader 7 to Adobe Reader 8.1.2 require a restart?

Everready, did you download and install the programs 7 to 8.1.2 in a group or individually?

I installed 6.0.2 thru 6.0.6 as a group, rebooted and all installed successfully.

I believe after all are installed you (as read from an old post) can uninstall thru Add and Remove programs, all but the first and last versions of Adobe. I can't say that is gospel in all cases, but that is what I did when I had the full series 6.0 thru 8.1

Re: Adobe Security Advisory:

I uninstalled 7.0 through Add or Remove Programs and then installed 8.1.2 and all went well. Is it possible to turn off the updater?

Edit: I found this with a Google Search

Delete a folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater5
Problem solved.
