No sleep timer??

I gather from the 2 posts i found in a search here that we have no sleep timer function? Not too big of a deal, but you'd think with these advanced boxes we'd have a sleep timer.

Why? It doesn't use any less power when it's turned off...

I believe he's talking about no sleep timer BUTTON on the FiOS remote. I mentioned this months ago. It requires the use of 2 remotes. There are discreet codes published on the web for the Comcast remote- you can program any button to do almost anything if you can get the code. However, I haven't been able to locate any codes for the FiOS remote to program any specific buttons to do special functions.

It would only turn off the box and leave the tv on.

Well i'm not really concerned about power consumption. My wife is used to falling asleep with the tv on. But its annoying when you fall asleep and the tv stays on all night and wakes you up. So even when the cable box shuts off (like you can set with any other provider), the feed shuts off and no sound. I really don't care if the tv stays on, and its kinda foolish to use the tv's remote to do this when we have these remotes which consolidate everything.

The STBs don't have a sleep timer function - there isn't any remote code to control a feature that's not there.

If your TV has the sleep timer feature and the FIOS remote is coded to control the TV - then you may have a workaround available. If the TV is on, select the "TV" device - then press the "MENU" key. Many TVs will now display their internal menus. You may have to press a different key than "MENU" to get the TV to display it's menu, but it's worth a try.

Once the TV menu is displayed you can generally navigate around them using the arrow keys - YMMV.

That didn't work for me as the only way to set the sleep timer is to hit SLEEP on the TV remote - that is until i found the discreet code for the Comcast remote. Since the Comcast remote also works FiOS, maybe you can get one those on eBAY or something.

I still think there HAS to be a way - there have to be codes out there. . .SOMEWHERE!

Even if a TV has a sleep-timer function to turn the set off at a specific time, that is all that will be off.
If your STB or DVR is connected directly to your surround sound receiver, as ours is, when the TV is turned off, the sound remains on untill you turn the receiver off, lower the volume to zero or turn off the box. Mark F.

All my HDTVs turn off after a few minutes of no signal(Even my old 32" TV from 1991 did this). So turning off the STB would make the TV turn off after a few minutes.
