| [Bus. Ops] Chillispot/Wifi Hotspot Management Software
Hi all - I'm writing to ask if anyone needs a management platform for Chillispot or other hotspot hardware?
Our company is a dial-up and DSL ISP and we were asked by some local restaurants to setup hotspots for them. We needed something to control the hotspots rather than just throwing up a splash page and/or leaving the hotspot as a completely open access point. We couldn't find anything that was really user-friendly and didn't like any of the other services (like Sputnik or Worldspot) so we built our own. We're using it ourselves and are planning to open it up for outside ISPs (or just restaurant/establishment owners) to use, likely for free. Is there anyone here who's willing to help us beta test it?
The Management Platform has features like: - Time Limits - Bandwidth Limits - Download/Upload Caps - Splash page only - Create prepaid tickets - Online sign-up for paid accounts w/instant activation
All you need is a router running DD-WRT or any other Chillispot client. We're providing the UAM, RADIUS and all of the backend AUTH services...we just need people to use it and see if it's user-friendly enough to hand-over for general use. The Control Panel we've built is entirely web-based.
Please PM or respond with any questions; I need some outside input on it! Thanks -Aa |

| Yes this sounds interesting.
I don't actually object to a reasonable monthly fee if you ended up going to that eventually. We currently run our own RADIUS & Apache to provide for 3 PoP locations each running a ChilliSpot daemon but I have been looking to offload it.
I'll drop you a PM with our email address. |

| reply to TheMakdaddi No thanks we use »www.wirelessorbit.com already which works great and fits our needs. We like to stick with a hardware platform that is more proffesional grade then a linksys router running DD-wart.. -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor. Wireless consultants. |

Is this a free standing captive portal that I could pay you cash for, or is it just another "Partner" system that depends on YOUR server for functionality ? |

| From the sounds of it the system is just like Wireless Orbit or anyone like that. You need their servers to run your hotspot. Basicall you outsource your backend to them and they host the entire thing for you. it's not a bad idea although you have to ensure yourself that they can handle any problems that may arise such as backbone connections and how long their going to be in business.
But I my self would like more information on this. Please PM me. |

| reply to TheMakdaddi Thanks to everyone who responded and/or IM'd me. I've setup a forum to gain feedback and provide an easy way to discuss ideas/bugs/feature requests, etc... for the software. For anyone who is interested, the site is »www.BlueDotWifi.com.
Remember that it's free and still in beta (although usable)...I'm not selling anything here, just asking for anyone who needs something like this to check it out and provide any feedback you feel like giving. Thanks -Aa |
