| What camera should I get
First what is the difference between SLR-like and a Compact camera? I notice Newegg has a SLR-like category? I have been looking at these 2 cameras

Can anyone give any thoughts, recommendations, etc. Thanks |

| My take on the difference would be mainly size and also the ability for some kit lenses, if the camera has them. I use a Canon A710IS as well as a Sony H-5. The Sony is considered an SLR-like camera and does many of the same things an SLR might. It also comes with or you can buy some lenses for it, albeit not very good ones compared to what an SLR would use. The Canon is not quite compact to fit in most pockets but there in lies a big difference between the 2. The Sony is huge in comparison! |

I followed the $509.00 Amazon link on the A710 IS .. it's there, but not made of gold, as I suspected.
Just guessing, based on numerous online sellers, this camera currently sells for an averaged price of .. $290'ish? -- "Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything" --Wyatt Earp |

| reply to hack4fun In the past year or so the line has gotten VERY blurred... traditional P&S sized cameras (like the Canon A720) have near all the functions/setting of a SLR.
These days I would say the big difference in the "likes" is more lens/filter add on flexabiltiy, and the bulk... that actually makes them much easier to handle and keep still (w/o IS)
Used to be their LCD screens were bigger but again not so much true now.
Some have longer zooms, but then again the not much thincker than Canon A720, SX-100 is 10x (vs 6x) so that is quickly changing too.
Likely the DSL likes will be gone in the next year or so,and it wil be the basic and then VERY sophisticated not much larger P&S, and the true SLR's
