Re: [Availability] U-Verse in SC

2011 ROTFL gee I wonder how it'll change by then.

They really are 'the bargain mart bin' of network & TV access right now, can you image them trying to push the same copper plant 3 years from now?

Here in NA we can get a max of 3mb...

@bellsouth.net
There are lots of places in North augusta that can get 6 meg.It's according to how far you are from the DSLAM.

Really? We know many families that have requested 6.0 service that live all around NA and none have the availibility. My folks live within a 3 min walk of the DSLAM in the Rapids and can't get 6.0 service.

@bellsouth.net

That's a 80cab remote terminal fitted with a Catena and most of the Catena's around here are only 3meg, and that's because we don't want to over subscribe and thus we can provide more people with 3 meg than 6meg.You know basic math, 3 goes in to a number more than 6.

We know folks at the River Club, Martintown III, and Hammond Hills. We also know some folks in Bergen Place that was looking at DSL but stayed with Comcast. I'm not sure if it was because DSL wasn't availible to them or if the service wasn't what they expected.

I know someone on West Ave that at least 6 months ago couldnt' get 6mb service.

Were you saying that just the folks maybe right around the office on Georgia Ave? It that's true, I suppose we can claim that at least in this area ATT's not cherry picking LOL.

@bellsouth.net

To name a few, Gregory Lake rd,Walnut rd (neighborhoods),parts of Five notch,Gypsy Camp area(edgefield rd), 2200 Ascauga Lake area,Lakes and Streams(Old Sudlow Lake rd- there are plenty more, that's just to name a few.All the areas you named, the dslam is in the CO between Knox and Georgia on Marion. All the areas I named have remote DSLAM 's.Like I said, there are plenty of areas that can get 6meg and there are much more that can't.

So Martintown III and Hammond Hills operate off the CO which itself can't give 6.0 service, but there is a Remote DSLAM in the Rapids that is only 3mb service.

I suprised the CO can't give 6.0 service....

This may be just a unanswerable question, but do you feel they are going to wait for UVerse before upgrading their plants in this area?

I know they continue to develop some nice homes down by the river, including those ever so lovely condos at the River Club. I also know they plan on putting in another 80 or so homes in a new part of The Rapids. Bergen Place seems to want to continue expanding too.

Hammond's Ferry is fiber to the curb(fttc)and they can get 6meg.The CO can give 6meg but you have to be at least 8800 ft(ADSL/2)from the CO. Bergen Place doesn't have anything and I have not heard of any DSLAM being installed.The Rapids has a Catena(which is not like the Alcatel 7300 series DSLAM) and it only gives up to 3meg because it is fed by T1's and not a fiber, thus not having the necessary bandwidth at the moment

Yea I was told once that the Rapids DSLAM was bandwidth starved when 6mb was first launched. I wonder how they will handle the new homes once they start going up...

Can the River Club not get 6mb service?

I suppose I'll personally have to keep playing the waiting game, but it does make one wonder as Comcast in this area continues to ramp speeds up will ATT just continue to be the bargain choice.
