| Get the Mounties back on their horses....
...and away from people!
quote: An elderly man in Kamloops, B.C., was zapped three times on the torso by a police stun gun while lying on his hospital bed, CBC News has learned.
Frank Lasser, 82, appeared fragile Thursday when he showed the Taser marks on his body and talked about the ordeal he went through Saturday.
"They [police] should have known I had bypass surgery," Lasser told CBC News.

Although, since they didn't pump him full with bullets a la Sean Bell so that's a saving grace... |

| reply to AR Surely a person joining a police force recognizes that they might have to "get their hands dirty" at some point. What's with all these pussies unwilling to do any police work and maybe risk getting a bruise or something? Instead they pull the taser out on old men? Ridiculous! Shameful!!! -- Check out the »Primus TalkBroadband VoIP FAQ. |

"Kamloops RCMP said Thursday that officers had no other option but to deploy the conducted energy weapon when Lasser refused to drop his knife."
Ooh, the dangerous old man in the hospital bed was so strong the 3 cops couldn't just grab his arm and take the knife out. The cops are becoming wimps with this taser and it's getting used way too much. |

Maybe the police across Canada should go on strike for a week or so. |

The RCMP is where people who can't get into local or provincial police go. It's quasi-military, so everyone who's in the force is bitter and pissed off because their first assignment was in some buttfuck nowhere place in Nunavut or something. -- I swear that I will faithfully and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |

| reply to AR I know 80 year olds that are as strong as oxen so age is not something that should be used as an excuse.
The man would not drop his weapon and force was used. While I think 3 times was excessive, he was warned what would happen if he didn't drop it. |

Dealing with University educated types every day has learned me that idiots do come with papers on walls. Social skills and IQs are not prerequisites to graduation, and education not a requirement for common sense.

| reply to AR I would really like to know if the average IQ of the RCMP is below the average IQ of the general population.
At the Vancouver airport, the police were called in because Polish immigrant, Robert Dziekanski had become agitated, after being lied to for ten hours, while someone at the airport clearly lied to his mother. Many lies happened that day. I would like to find out more about the Robert Dziekanski incident. Who lied, and why. And why did the heaviest one of the RCMP put his knee on Dziekanski's neck, while the little bugger RCMP stood as a lookout man, to see if Polish guy had any terrorists nearby that would help him.
That was the most disgusting thing I ever saw, when the RCMP killed the Polish guy at the airport, and I wonder if we will find out more about what happened, or will the RMP conveniently sweep it all under the carpet?

| reply to AR Just another thread dumping on police by people who wouldn't have the guts to take on an angry grannie unless they were armed.
I like all the comments claiming that police should tussle with a man armed with a knife. Clearly they don't care whether the cop is killed or not in dealing with someone who is armed with a deadly weapon. |

| reply to BigSensFan said by BigSensFan :I know 80 year olds that are as strong as oxen so age is not something that should be used as an excuse. Three mounties should be sufficient to subdue one person regardless of age or strength. The issue here is not that he was 80 years old and maybe or maybe not strong or weak, it's the number of mounties and the fact that the taser was deemed necessary in another dubious situation.
A taser should not be used, in my opinion, except in the same situation in which a sidearm would be used. If there had been no officer authorized to use a taser at that hospital with that man, then what would they have done? A taser is convenient, and that is the problem. -- Check out the »Primus TalkBroadband VoIP FAQ. |

The police are trained to physically restrain someone. The average citizen is not. I wouldn't take on an "angry granny" not out of fear, but because I'd more likely hurt her because I didn't do it properly. The police are trained to do it right. -- Check out the »Primus TalkBroadband VoIP FAQ. |

| reply to AR Some cops are good. Some cops are bastards. Some cops are corrupt. some cops are fair. Some cops are intelligent. Some cops are dumber than a sack of broken hammers.
But when the cops kill someone, there should be an investigation, and all Canadians should to told the truth. The cops are there for all Canadians, their wages are paid by our tax dollars. |

Chad Skelton (Vancouver Sun) - Several hours of surveillance footage recorded at Vancouver airport the night Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski was Tasered and died were inadvertently erased by the Canada Border Services Agency a week after his death, The Vancouver Sun has learned.
