| [SWX] Near record highs for NW California Thursday and Friday
"... Very hot temperatures expected inland this week...
Strong high pressure aloft will build over northern California through much of the upcoming week. This feature will bring a sharp warming trend to the region... especially Wednesday through Friday.
Daytime temperatures in the 80s to lower 90s on Wednesday... will rise to the 90s to around 100 degrees Thursday and Friday through out the lower elevation valleys of Trinity County... eastern Humboldt... and interior Mendocino County.
Spring snow melt and water release from local dams will produce swift running river currents this week. Those seeking a refreshing dip in the cool river waters should use extreme caution. Turbulent water flow... hidden debris... and cold water temperatures can quickly bring on a life threatening situation for anyone caught in the grip of a strong river flow.
Prepare for the heat if you plan to be outdoors. Drink plenty water and wear light loose clothing. Take frequent breaks and seek out shade. If you go the river... bring a flotation device and keep kids well away from the strong flowing water."
It's been so nice here in Redwood Valley (and the rest of NW CA) the past few days, highs in the 50's to mid 60's, lows in the mid 30's to mid 40's, I am not looking forward to this heat, it's just too early for it!! We had plenty of rain and above normal snowfall this winter here, a good thing if this heat wave is a sign of a hot summer. -- »www.freightrailworks.org »www.amtrak.com »www.amtrakcalifornia.com »www.metrolinktrains.com »www.up.com »www.bnsf.com »www.aslrra.org/home/index.cfm |

Currently 93F here on the east side of the Sac Valley, with a RH of 26%. NW wind 10MPH gusting to 20 MPH.
We are under a Red Flag fire warning. It seems like everything dried out in about two days. -- We were taking a vote when the ground came up and hit us. |

| reply to RR Conductor I hope some of that stuff blows eastward soon!
Lately, it's been too much below normal stuff here. It's bad enough that we have cold weather every year for winter, so every day counts! |

| reply to RR Conductor It was 86 here today in Redwood Valley, a thick layer of high clouds started streaming in this morning, and while keeping the temp down they also brought in a lot of humidity, making it very muggy Things aren't quite that dry here yet and the hills still look pretty green, we have had a lot of cool weather so far this Spring, and a good winter for snow and rain. We had some rain in March and April, so that helped too.
Edit-My Dad and I were over your way working a case for the FBI last week, Redding, Chico and Oroville, I noticed things over in the valley were about a month ahead of us in growth and the dryness of the grass, but that's normal. We get the ocean influence here too, and that helps keep things cooler, it's usually anywhere from 8-15 degrees cooler than Redding. It's nice here too, in the summer it can be 100, but at night it always cools into at least the 50's, and the humidity goes from 20% or so during the day to 60-80% at night, that daytime offshore/nighttime onshore thing, places like Redding and Red Bluff just stay hot all night. -- »www.freightrailworks.org »www.amtrak.com »www.amtrakcalifornia.com »www.metrolinktrains.com »www.up.com »www.bnsf.com »www.aslrra.org/home/index.cfm |

| reply to RR Conductor This stinks, 9 PM and it's still 81 degrees, though the wind is helping cool it a bit. I will be glad when temps return to normal early next week, highs in the 60's and 70's, lows in the upper 30's to mid 40's. |

| It's forecast to hit the mid 90's here in Redwood Valley tomorrow through Sunday, before stating to cool off Monday, with normal daytime highs (60's to around 70) returning by mid week, and I will be glad, it's too early for this heat! It was 87 here today and VERY muggy, right now, 10:50 PM it's a nice, cool 68.
Edit-FYI-Redwood Valley is 8 miles north of Ukiah, here in Mendocino County in Northwestern California. I know Grants Pass pretty well, we're through there every so often, it's about 300 miles northeast of us. |

Wind is 7-10 here, but higher gusts are the norm in the foothills.

when will the internet turn to normal in ukiah? this sucks I'd like to know, it sure is running slow tonight! I have tested my speeds, I had 31000/2500 at 6 AM, at noon download speeds had dropped to 6000, by this evening they had dropped to 3000 down, and right now download speeds are at 2500, it's definitely a capacity problem somewhere. -- »www.freightrailworks.org »www.amtrak.com »www.amtrakcalifornia.com »www.metrolinktrains.com »www.up.com »www.bnsf.com »www.aslrra.org/home/index.cfm |

| 102F here now. The "official" temp is from the airport, and always 3-5 degrees different than where I am. The airport temp is currently showing 98F.
At any rate, it sure is warm for May. -- We were taking a vote when the ground came up and hit us. |

| It got to 98 here today, right now it's 92, way too hot for mid May, I am sure looking forward to next week and a return to normal temps in the 70's! THankfully it cools off so nice here even on the hottest of days, it actually gets chilly in my room come morning, gotta love the close Pacific and the Onshore Flow. |
