The Final Fantasy games would probably be OK for a young girl. I've only played FF7 but I haven't heard anything controversial from the others in the series.

Re: RPG for 9 year old girl

The Ultima series(with the exception of IX) is good as well. Course you'd have to use DOSBox for most of them.

Would you consider a city-building game, ala SimCity?

E.g.,
- Children of the Nile
- Civilization
- Caesar, Zeus, Cleopatra, etc. made by Irrational Games

If she has a Nintendo DS, she might like games such as Animal Crossing: Wild World, and Harvest Moon.

If its an MMO you're looking for, Disney is running the Pirates of the Carribean free MMO. I'm guessing since its Disney, it would probably be ok for someone her age but I havent played it. Other than that, the Final Fantasy games would be ok and so would Kingdom Hearts.

I loved Ultima IX... great game.

Disney's Toontown is alot of fun. It's a strictly online game, however, with a $5 monthly fee.

Why on earth would you let a 9 year old play an rpg? Let alone sims?

I'm 15 and I can't even play sims.

I guess some people aren't mature enough for it no matter what their age.

Never Winter Nights, any Sim game,Hello Kitty MMORPG and so on...at 9 years old my nephew was making NWN modules...you would be surprised what they can do at that age.

Are you sure they won't get heavily addicted to an mmorpg at a young age, as to engulf themselves in it their whole life?

Not to sound like a skeptic. RPGs and such that have social aspects with real people don't seem like the best thing to give a 9 year old

My 9 year old son plays WOW. He couldn't care less about the RPG elements, he just goes into battlegrounds and kills other players. He plays the game like it's Counter Strike, lol.

Late to the show, but another vote for Toontown. You didn't say in the OP if it has to be a game that runs on a PC. For a nine-year-old interested in RPG I would also recommend Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon, but these are games that run on platforms such as the GameCube, Wii, and Nintendo DS.
