new cable modem

My download speed was increased last week by Time-Warner RoadRunner from 5MB to 7MB. All was great until yesterday morning when my DL speed dropped back down to 4.7 or so. I tested at various sites (Speakeasy; Time-Warner; DSLReports, etc). It was like the new speed increase had been removed. I contacted TW-RR and they said they could see noise, either coming from the line or the modem. My cable modem was a Scientific Atlantic model that I have had since I was using their digital phone service (no longer use that service). They suggested I take my cable modem to the local office and get a new one. They also scheduled a service call for Wednesday in case the new modem didn't resolve the issue. I did swap my old modem for a *new (refurbished) Motorola SB5101. I installed this new modem and had to contact CS to activate the new modem and again to reset my email service. Much to my surprise the new hardware did resolve my download speed issue and I'm now back up to 6.8MB. Is the Motorola SB5101 a pretty dependable cable modem ? What modem are you using ?

Mine is a Moto SB5100 that I've had for a few years, and never had any problems at all with it.

I've been using a Motorola SB5100 for many years now, and have had no problems what so ever.
