Authentication

Don't know for ure if this is the right forum... I have a firewall that blocks a lot of content.. in my router.. can I use one of my home PCs to access the internet through the router for speed but authenticate through my dialup for the content somehow? Is there a way to set the proxy in IE for that somehow?

you don't control the router?

You can log into your router and change the filtering options to suit your needs. The specific screens and method will depend on the make and model of the router.

I use many PCs, I'd rather just set one up to dial up and use the dialup acct for authentication, is there no way?

There is no way.

Your dialup connection and authentication would be one session; any connection made through the router would all be on a seperate, authenticated, session with your ISP.

Those using satellite connections often have something close to what you are asking; but the ISP is provisioned for this two session traffic. It knows that uploads will essentially be through the telephone dialup connection, and downloads through the satellite. This requires special equipment to split the traffic at your side of things, and special arrangements by the ISP to understand it.

Based on the information you've provided, Here's what I'm assuming is the case;

XXX

wired or wireless)

If your topology is similar to the rudimentary diagram above, whoever controls the router has control of the content filtering. Logging into your dialup connection will not allow you to bypass the restrictions in the router. You need to contact the person in charge of that router to resolve any filtering issues for connections through that router. Of course if it's your router, you can make the changes.

And thank you for letting everyone know that your question was answered. So many questioners never let those who respond to them know if their problem/question is solved.
