I wonder if companies are charging that rate because they can.
The cost of doing business passed on the the consumer like it or not.

That and some companies like to cover their costs and turn a profit. What do you propose Mediacom charge?

I am not really sure I see your point. They are charging that rate today, and now they will be upgrading their customers for no additional charge. Seems to me like they are doing a good thing here. For what its worth, I pay almost that much for 7Mbps by 512k here in NYC and I would love to be upgraded for free!

It seems to be pretty fair. I wish I could get it. I pay $60 a month for Alltel EV-DO rev 0. I am lucky to get 1Mbps some of the time. It would cost me $1200 a month to equal that speed. When I had Cox Cable 8Mbps last year, before I moved, it was $40 a month for 8Mbps. It would cost me $80 a month with Cox, and it would still be 4Mbps slower, and the upload would not equal 2Mbps. I looked at there website and they offer cheaper slower tiers, and they are pretty fair too.

20/2 - $75 ($60 with TV)
8/512 - $60 ($45 with TV, if you have phone too you get 10/1)
3/256 - $40 ($25 with TV)

First of all I am a Mediacom employee. Regardless of that I think these are decent prices.

See the reply in the 20/2 thread in the Mediacom forum. The 3/256 service will be $30 going forward. Current customers retain their $25 rate.

Oh you know it. companies don't think they should pay any of their own costs anymore. since video is where the really lucrative profits are, thats why theres a "$15 no TV penalty fee"

I agree but in the mean time I'll take powerboost It works great with smaller files!

Nope i just think companies like to gouge subscribers for much as they can while they can. Since we never ever really have true competition, we will keep paying higher rates for slower services than most modern countries.

That's what I am thinking. It forces you to bundle for a cheaper rate. In the long run once you add everything you may want to your bundle like premium channels the cost just goes up.

Costs are relative. I personally like what I have in comparison to a lot of modern countries. If I want 20/2 service, I think $60/mth is a fairly good price.
