All I got was the Malicious Software Removal Tool on 3 different XP and XP Pro machines. Downloaded and ran smoothly. I already have SP3 loaded on all the machines so nothing else was offered.

Why does Microsoft keep contradicting themselves anytime there is a Word patch?

They say it doesn't apply to Works Suite 2006. Why? Works Suite 2006 contains Word 2002 and in another place Microsoft states that Word 2002 is vulnerable and needs patching.

I have both Works Suite 2002 and Works Suite 2006 and the version of Word is IDENTICAL ON BOTH. It is Word 2002 and Works Suite 2006 does not contain some magically updated Word 2002 that doesn't need patching! (Same thing goes for Works Suite 2005 which contains Word 2002 but Microsoft says it doesn't need patching either).

Plus, Microsoft says Office XP has a version of Word that needs patching. Well, sure, because Word 2002 is part of Office XP and if I try to patch Word 2002, what actually happens every time is that my NON existent Office XP gets patched (meaning Word 2002).

This is all unnecessarily confusing. I have complained before to Microsoft about this and then they fix the bulletin and issue a revision. I'm getting tired of it though.

I just checked the file version for my Word.exe which I installed as PART OF WORKS SUITE 2006.
My file version is 10.0.6838 and the patched version is
10.0.6843.0. Obviously, I need the patch and Microsoft needs to stop saying Works Suite 2005 and 2006 are excluded from Word patches.

This is just another thing that only MS can answer for you.

Have you taken the time to visit the MS Works Updates & Downloads site Marilyn?

Considering you are using such old version of Works the pickings may be slim but you have to look around for yourself.

The jet database engine update does not apply to XP SP3 but only to SP2. Did MS include more than what they said SP3 includes? Was this more secure version part of the list of 'enhancements' of SP3?
