| Availability
Qwest support has been no help.
I am moving into a new house in July and need to setup service and have it be active by the day I move in.
Qwest told me they could not give me available speeds for broadband until I have a phone number active.
Anything I can do?
Also is there any way to get faster the 1Mb up? I just want 2 up and would be happy. -- ==== Eye In The Sky ==== I Fight Crime - One Camera At A Time |

| Online, if you put in an address, the system should be able to tell you the available service there. It did when I put in the information. Have you tried that.
As far as speed goes, if you are using traditional ADSL, then the answer is no. The technology itself; not Qwest; only allows a max of 1mb. Normally, the dsl provider will actually limit the upload to 896kb. After ATM overhead, you are looking around 750kb. Those who actually had 1mb, were grandfathered. New accounts, depending on the dslam, will probably be no more than the 896kb, 750kb after overhead. Later... Mike.... |

| reply to CCTVTech Sorry, it's not clear to me if the house is built already or you are just moving so the house is only new in the sense that it is new to you. So is this a new house, or are you moving into an existing house?
I don't know of any Qwest DSL offerings that have more than 1Mbps up. IIRC someone posted here that they were able to bond two DSL lines (but of course that isn't the same thing). -- "You are technically correct. The best kind of correct." -Bureaucrat 1.0 |

| reply to CCTVTech Find any local employee that wants a you can sale. The you can sales people in Phoenix are local, better trained than some random sales centers and are local. You may need a nearby number if the house is brand new. There is a general policy to sometimes put in the DSL later by a few days. However this is not a hard and fast rule and dsl, vdsl, and probably the new fttn can be installed the same day so long as the records are correct. So find any Qwest employee and give them a DSL sale. Is this for small business or residential? I may be able to find a contact if you do not. |

| reply to CCTVTech The house is still being built. It will be finished in July.
I asked the rep what my neighbors were getting and she couldn't tell me. She said each line is different, which I understand how it works, I just wanted to know if I could get better then 1.5 down.
The online tool said broadband is available for my new address but doesn't list any speeds/prices.
This would be residential service.
Someone said that I could purchase an extra fiber strand from the contractor that pulled fiber to the development and then have it lit be an independent ISP. But i know the cost to get that fiber down the street to my house would be way out of my budget. -- ==== Eye In The Sky ==== I Fight Crime - One Camera At A Time |

That is an interesting claim. Phoenix tends to be Cox, Qwest. Then again who knows. Never ignore a long shot. |

| reply to CCTVTech said by CCTVTech :The house is still being built. It will be finished in July. I seem to recall that you may be able to get the phone service installed prior to move in if you can work it out with the builder (that way you should be able to have DSL available on the day you move in). I have no idea how you would find out what your line would qualify for prior to there being a line, but it seems likely that someone at qwest would have a rough idea.
Oh, and if you know the new neighbors just ask them what they are getting (it would probably be similar). And if you don't know them then it could be a great time to meet them. -- "You are technically correct. The best kind of correct." -Bureaucrat 1.0 |

@qwest.net | reply to CCTVTech look like you might be in one of the "choice" area. Choice TV and Online. 107th and Taft, just south of cabelback is at least. IIRC it is up to 3m, so better than 1.5, but a far cry from 12-20m in other areas. |

| reply to CCTVTech Unfortunately my neighbors are cheapskates and either don't have internet or only have 256k from the few I've talked too.
From what I understand I have FTTN in my area and then is converted to ADSL, same as where I am now.
My wife is pushing me to COX due to them able to schedule install date the day we get our keys, I've just always been a DSL guy.
Either way all I'm going to get is just under 1Mb up max
Wish I could get a non-SLA Full T1 for cheap. We have a full T1 with Echelon/Integra and it's great at the office. -- ==== Eye In The Sky ==== I Fight Crime - One Camera At A Time |
