If you have current Smartnet contract on that router, you can have hardware replacement for free

If you don't have such contract, try to get one from local authorized Cisco reseller.

But they get the parts from some where. There has to be a site out there (I couldn't find any though) that has replacement parts.

For Cisco company itself, they have warehouses by major airports that store hardware replacements (at least in the US). Everytime a customer needs hardware replacement of any kind, there will be delivery guy (either the non-technical one from shipping courier like FedEx or the technical one from Cisco themselves) to bring in the replacement from one of those warehouses to the customer premise.

As for Cisco resellers, they may have their own independent warehouses to store hardware replacements. Those hardware replacements come from non-working devices such as your router to salvage. So yes, it is a common practice for these resellers to buy non-working used devices to resell as refurbished parts.

Crack it open, look at the model number on the fan and google it. You'll find it for sale somewhere...

That's what I did and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I found the company that makes them. But I couldn't find where to buy them.

It's made by JMC. The model# is 4020. It's a 40mm X 40mm X 20mm, and is DC 5 volt.

OK, here's the manufacturer's page:

Looks like 12V, but they have a 5V option as well. It appears to be a 3 lead fan (power + tach). If you can get the rest of the model number, you can also find the CFM. At that point you're just shopping for:

-5V
-40x40x20
-includes a tach lead
-? CFM

That is going to be a very easy find.

Probably very close: »www.buyextras.com/ev40x40x20dc.html

Yeah that's the fan. The problem is it's a 2 lead fan. And as far as the connector is concerned, I'll just snip the wires solder and tape the old connector on the new fan.

From experience I can tell you that some fans are made specifically for Cisco. If I remember correctly (and I may well not!) the 1760 uses the same fan as the 2950 switch and you can't buy these.

Look for as close a replacement as you can find (voltage, power, pulse lead). You are unlikely to find something as powerful as the Cisco fan but you should be able to find something that will do.

Jesus...why does this have to be so hard?
Well thanks for the heads up. I'll keep searching.

It doesn't.

Custom-shmustom, it's a friggin' fan. If you get the right voltage and size and the CFM is the same or more, you really don't have anything to worry about.

I'd head on over to the electronics forum here, they're going to know good sources.

Off the top of my head, I'd say if you can't find it at Mouser, I'll eat my shoe.

Is there anything more to the part number after the 4020? Do you have a picture you can post?

I'll take my camera in to work with me tomorrow and take a pic of it.

I believe the whole number is 4020-5lb

Edit==HA!! Mouser worked like a charm. There it is. Thank you so much!
