| Question regarding 1394 port
I recently build a computer. Everything is working fine. The only thing that sort of caught me off guard is that I can not use the 1394 port on the front panel of the case I bought because the motherboard does not support it.
i was hoping to know if anyone knew what I could do to solve this problem. I can't describe the cable that goes from the front panel to the motherboard (or which is supposed to go to the motherboard, in this case it can't since it isn't supported).
I overlooked something so simple such as makign sure the motherboard supported 1394. The reason I would like to have that feature is that I have external harddrives with have USB/eSata/Firewire. USB ports I have, but firewire is faster. While eSata is the fastest, I don't have a front panel port for it, so I rather get the firewire working if possible.
I attempted to look for some sort of PCI to 1394 expansion card but the internal female connectors on the card would not take in the weird cable the front panel uses.
Here is the case I brought:

The motherboard: »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···13128059
On a side note: does anyone know of any good PCI to IDE cards or SATA to IDE adapters for internal drives? |

If it's a connector like on the front of the case, it's a firewire400 connector and you'll want look for a card that has an internal firewire400 connector. A firewire800 connector is squarish and a little smaller. If it's a connector that goes on a pin header (like most cable that connect to a MB) than you'll want a board with a pin header.
AFAIR, my CoolerMaster case has a firewire400 connector. |

| In that case look for a firewire800 board with an internal pin header. Sorry, I don't know of one off hand, but I've seen MBs with with pin headers. Don't worry about the front panel being a firewire400 connector, as you can get a firewire400 to firewire800 cable. |
