| Trying to make an educated decision...need opinions...
I'm trying to decide whether I should play either Age of Conan or EQ2: RoK. I've done some research on both games (and played the EQ2 trial), and they both seem to be great games. What I want out of an mmorpg is good graphics (not like crysis graphics, but that's not an mmorpg), GREAT gameplay, and a HUGE community. I like PVE, and I have never tried out PVP. The only other mmorpg that I had gotten addicted to in the past was runescape, and I quit that a long time ago. I've done a lot of searching for the right MMORPG (I have downloaded so many trials, but none of them really "stuck" to me). If there are other MMOs that you guys recommend, then by all means list them in your replies. My system specs are at the bottom.
AMD Opteron 1212 oc 2.5 GHz air cooling (intake/exhaust) 2 GB DDR2800 RAM 80 GB HD ATI 2600XT 512 MB 128 memory bit ASrock ALIVE NF6P AM2 board (supports Phenom) 425 Watt power supply
PS if I do choose to play AoC, then would medium graphic settings (50-60fps average) do the trick or do I need a better video card? |

| I wouold recomend trying Eve if you havent already. I love that game, and with Faction warfare coming out in the next few weeks it will only get better.
You can get a free 2 week trial from www.eve-online.com.
generally you will know wether you love it or hate by the end of the trial. |

| reply to Tails Well, if you MMO experience is Runescape, I would not recommend Eve as your first real MMO, well, let me rephrase that...I would not recommend Eve if you wish to expand upon your Runescape experience. If you want a totally new and different MMO experience, try Eve.
Eve is a sci-fi MMO and can be extremely complicated.
Between AoC and EQ2, I recommend EQ2. AoC is new and will have some bugs to work out for a few months, all new games do. EQ2 has been out for awhile, not alot of bugs to worry about and a pretty big player base. I played EQ2 for about 18 months (taking a spring break from it). It's got alot of zones and you can solo. If you want a more mature crowd, I've found that the RP servers are the places to be. -- We will always be much more human than we wish to be. |

Hrm, let me see here. You want good graphics, great gameplay, and a huge community? You like PVE and are new to PVP? Why not World of Warcraft? If you are new to mmorpgs, its a great stepping stone. WoW is a great starting mmorpg. |

| reply to Tails remember you also need to be able to dedicate 40+ hrs of weekly play time and willing to sacrifice any or all of the following: • school grades • job • any semblance of social life • BF/GF if applicable
must also be willing to accept any or all of the following: • weight gain • low hygiene • no chance at obtaining a GF/BF (if applicable) • eviction from college campus due to poor grades (from not showing up to class due to late night raids)
not trolling or mocking, just a fact of playing (and enjoying) MMOs. i played various MMORPGs for about 5 years and looking back, i gained absolutely nothing in life during that time b/c i dedicated way too much of my life to it. if you can manage to enjoy an MMO while maintaning a normal life-style, then go for it. But, be extremely aware that many people fall into these games and lose months, even years, to idleness and complacency.
my lists were accumulated via personal experience, and experiences shared with me by others who fell victim to similar games.
be warned!
btw, AoC looks really good. -- Somnambulator - t3h 5133pw41k3r

There is a difference between dedicating yourself to a game, and playing to enjoy it. IMHO, the best MMORPG on the market right now for the casual gamer is World of Warcraft. For a small amount of time investment, you can accomplish a lot. I didn't need to sacrifice my marriage, job, playing hockey 2-3 times a week, or my social life.
As for accepting the things you mentioned, I accepted none of those. Didn't even lose my job.
Sure, a lot of mmorpgs out there demand a huge time investment. Some people have no self control, and many mmorpgs can be enjoyed without a huge time committment. So its all dependent upon the person.
Maybe I can lump the definition of a hockey player as in people who all have damaged teeth because I have seen many hockey players who get hit in the mouth during a game. Just an example.... |

| reply to Tails Hey guys, I don't mean to intrude upon this thread, but I have an issue related to the Eve online trial installation which I wanted to get after reading posts from here.
I registered for a trial account, and while downloading the client I get the attached error -- My Site (OverwhelmingKnowledge) My Forum (OK Forums) |
