[hard drive] Second Harddrive keeps shutting down

I am using an IDE 250GB HDD in my computer right now as a second HDD. There are a couple of things that worry me about it. First when I took it out from an older machine I noticed that as I held the HDD in my something seemed to be moving. It felt like the read-write head almost. I can only go by sound. It may have been loose or something. Apparently not enough to scratch or damager the actual plates inside since the drive itself is still working.

Second thing I've noticed is that when I'm using my computer I constantly hear that harddrive shut down every so often. It makes that noise that an external harddrive makes when you turn it off. Normally I wouldn't care, but I've heard that constantly turning on/off a harddrive can reduce its 'life expectancy' since most harddrives are manufactured to be turned on a couple of times a day. So I've read anyways.

In case the mobo is the culprit, here it is: »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···13128059

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32. first time I've encountered something like this.

If Vista is like XP, any HDD's not in use can be set to power off. It is in the power options in Control (for XP).

You don't by chance keep a CD in the tray, and mistaking it spinning down as being the HDD spinning down?

I don't know if you are listening specifically at the drives, or are just sitting at your desk, so thought I'de ask

No CD in the IDE optical drive. It's definitely the HDD spinning down. I checked the power settings and it was set to turn off the harddrive after 20 minutes which sounds about how often this was ocurring. Thanks, that will hopefully solve it.
