| Beware of high priority boinc units
I was making some BIOS changes today. While reviewing the boinc screen I noticed that one of my cores (now 2 cores) wasn't running, or so I thought. One unit (not shown now) was reading "WAITING TO RUN" but would not run.
First, I thought it was the program. I restarted, changed settings, aborted a unit, restarted, etc, etc. Then I figured it was the horror of a CORE FAILURE. This is an undue annoyance costing both my time and valuable crunch time.
For those who have recently increased their cache due to the recent boinc outage....You may suddenly think one or more cores have failed. Be advised that your cores will suddenly skip below your visable screen area and start a "high priority unit".
I have not tried to check and have no idea what this is all about? -- Team Discovery and Project Hope |

..exactly because of what you said (increasing cache)
If you click on the Progress bar in the top tab..it will organize it all for you |

| reply to Ray422 Never had a "high priority" before. I suppose because I've never had the cache over one day before. Sure was a costly lesson.
Thanks lil for the explanation
EDIT: and I can guarantee that these strange things will always happen at the precise time when I am making computer changes. -- Team Discovery and Project Hope |

They must have added a new program and thrown them in to the que because I didn't set my profile to download them. -- Team Discovery |

It got added by default.

| reply to Ray422 More explanation...
A quoted portion from this link- »www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forum···ad=20203 ...of what was said by---Sekerob Community Advisor on 5/9/08. "Generally BOINC tries to complete work 24 hours before due date, so I presume this was rush/repair work that with a short deadline."
I only keep my cache set at 1.5 days, so.... --Those 2 units must have been "rush/repair" since the due date was 7-8 days earlier than the others. --Since this happened on the 16th, I suppose the 24 hour earlier completion date caused a two-day early high-priority trigger. -- Team Discovery and Project Hope |

I changed that to a NO! Hopefully that will stop this from happening in the future. |

| reply to Ray422 Dang, we must all think alike and all at the same time. I hadn't seen this thread and I don't check BOINC all that much because, quite frankly, it just works.
Bored, I wanted to look at what BOINC was doing and lo and behold, I have the rice work units happily crunching away.
I unknowingly crunched Dengue work units until I discovered them in my cache some time ago.
I've once again changed my default profile to remove the Rice preferences.
I'm all for nutritious rice, I just do it differently. -- Team Discovery
