5GB Limit - How Many will try to get out of the contract?

Since Sprint is changing there contract and changing the terms.

How many people will try to get out of there contract July 1st?

Has anyone tried to get out of there contract yet?

Re: 5GB Limit - How Many will try to get out of the contract?

Since I'm getting Insight cable and ended up even having their CEO take care of something on my behalf... this is actually good for me as it's supposed to be installed in July.

So soon as I get the official notice in the mail and I can get a bit closer to July, it's canned.

Re: 5GB Limit - How Many will try to get out of the contract?

I havent decided but most likely i will go back to dial up and keep trying to get cable .Cable is like 2 blocks away.

I got the Wireless to be able to use xbox live for downloadable content and plus playing games.

If i cant do that any more there will be no reason to have wireless.Sure ill miss watching videos on youtube and stuff. isnt like i would get to do that much with only 5gb anyway.

i can easily jump ship when the time comes.

i have two wisp providers spewing over my head as i type.

one offers 3+meg downloads. :O
(it appears to cost a little less per month too.)

i could get by with the 5gig limit, but that SPEED
above looks very attractive from that isp.
(i'm scheduled for an install soon.)

i'll probably bail out of sprint if that isp can deliver...funny thing is that this new "5gig RULE" caused me
to look at what is NOW available locally.

another reason to bail is that i HATE watching a download counter or such.

I'm leaving. I have a datacard. I'll be leaving the phone service I have with Sprint as well.

I'm going with at least one datacard from ATT. 2 if I see my data is too much. I have a regular net connection at home so this is purely for mobility.

I might have to make the switch from Smartphone to PDA phone and use the phone a lot more then I would like to for email, web and webclips. Won't risk watching any video or listen to streaming music on capped service.

If persons with Sprint MBB are going to grandfathered in as to no cap, why would anyone that has it already, bail?

But I will say that I have a nextel/sprint cell phone and have for at least 15 yrs. And as of the last 6 wks or so, every call I have come in (free incoming calls) will drop after about a 20 min conversation. Its become so annoying, I am thinking of changing my cell service. Reason 2 would be I have to watch my bill monthly like a hawk as to being over charged.

Re: 5GB Limit - How Many will try to get out of the contract?

The idea that people are going to be grandfathered in is much more a rumor than the posts at Buzz and EVDOforums. That much is confirmed.

For some this is a matter of principle, others this is a very convenient way to get out of the ETF, for the rest we're just generally ticked off at Sprint.

My family has had Nextel service since they were known as Nextel in the earliest parts of the 90's. All I see now is that I'm paying too much for service and can do better else ware.

My father has a Verizon and a Cingular phone, Cingular drops so many calls it's ridiculous. The Cingular will go to Verizon soon and save another $40 something a month. Much less having to write out several bills per month, saving time.

not me...I'll stick with it until I'm terminated, then go back to dial-up once I am (if I am, that is).

I have no other option; there aren't any WISPs, cable is over 2-3 miles away (and now everyone on my road has satellite, good luck for people saying "yes" even if I could convince Charter and/or TWC to do a survey).

a WISP was going to put up a new tower a while ago, but it completely fell through...Verizon doesn't have EVDO in the area...and well...I'd go with Alltel if they did (I'd be willing to pay the $60 a month for truly unlimited service)....but they only offer coverage in far-east Ohio.

So, I'm truly stuck...my only hope is that Embarq deploys DSL, but with the sinking economy and my general location, it's doubtful that that will happen (and if it was, it probably wouldn't be until next year anyway).

Sadly, it looks like I'll be going back to dial-up in the not-so-distant future....*sigh*.

Re: 5GB Limit - How Many will try to get out of the contract?

Im am in the same spot as you, cable is about 5miles away but dsl is only about 1mile away, Embarq said by this xmas so i can only hope. And for any WISP im on the very edge for both WISP in my area. I could go to Alltel but i can't go back to Rev. 0 as i need the upload speed for my live streaming i do.

I am just going to have to watch what i download and kick my sister off the network and give her a ded, dial-up line again ( for about 2 years we both had our own lines for dial-up) And now i am going to start having to use my DSL line the i bought at my grandparents house for all my downloading again.

Only way im going to get out of my contract is if i keep going over the 5GB cap which i know will happen as just daily web surfing can put me at almost 200Mb a day and thats not including streaming music with my di.fm account (which i got right when i got my EVDO to b/c its so great)

But we will see.

1 mile? That sucks :T

my case? I'm only about 4,400-4,500 feet away from a remote terminal...and it's a fiber-fed remote terminal (and the copper lines from my home to the terminal are good as well...I was able to connect at 50.6k with dial-up, back in the day).....the only issue? No DSLAM....if there was once, a large portion of my area would have DSL (and that's needed, there's been more homes built of late).

Yep, the RT is just right up the street from me to, a good ~1000feet. And my dial-up speeds were that fast also. There would be a good 100 people in my area that could get DSL if they enabled the RT for DSL. But once i can get DSL im still going to keep SMB as i got the linksys router so i'll just be useing it for backup if the DSL ever goes out.

I'll cancel. Just out of principle. I'll get the same thing from Verizon, but companies need to learn that what they're doing isn't what the customers want. I realize this will just be rewarding Verizon in the end, but the point is made at the time the change is made - Verizon already went through that pain.

Unfortunately, the only other WISP in my area is Clearwire.. which smells way to Sprint-y for me.

Since this is my second time cancelling Sprint, I will never, ever, ever consider their services again. They got their second chance.

Why go to Verizon, they'll charge you $500 for each GB over 5GB and doesn't allow you out of contract w/out fees. Sprint will just cancel or 'modify' (throttle?) service and you can get out of the contract with no fees.

Verizon Wireless shows that the overage charge is $0.49 per MB over the 5GB limit. 0.49X1000=490

Re: 5GB Limit - How Many will try to get out of the contract?

I think I would get out of the contract AND drop the service for the simple fact Sprint has horrible customer service. I would hate to "cancel my contract" and learn later they did not complete the paperwork and then send me a bill later if I did decide to drop the service. I love the service but I have already been in one contract battle over a contract that didn't exist before and got a ding on my credit over it. UGH I hope they throw the cap idea out the window.

I recently signed up for the Sprint mobile broadband (longtime Sprint customer for cell phone). I liked the unlimited service, no roaming, and portability of the card. I am very upset they have announced a cap less than 30 days after I renewed. My contract was up so I renewed and got a new phone and new Compass 597 with rebates for each on new 2-yr contract.

I am very interested in the comment in the previous post - how can you get out of the contract on both cards - but keep the service?

Been a sprint guy for 9 years now. Data for 8 years. Once this goes into place I'm gone and by that I mean 6 lines and a data card. For all the issues I have had in the last 3 months I'm done with the "Now Network".

The contract is so you can get the lower prices on the phones. Basically, you say you'll stay with them for so long so they can recoup the costs of giving you the discount. You don't HAVE to sign a contract to get the service.

I understand about how the contracts help them recoup hardware costs, but in reference to your comments above -- you suggest that the change in their terms will allow you to break the contract. Am I interpreting you corretly? If so, pls describe how this can be done.

Sprint's contract:
When You Don't Have To Pay An Early Termination Fee
You aren't responsible for paying an Early Termination Fee when terminating Services: (a) provided on a month-to-month basis; (b) consistent with our published trial period return policy; or (c) in response to a materially adverse change we make to the Agreement as described directly below.

I'd like to do this as well, but I'm not sure if I can; I have a feeling I'll be given "sorry, if you continue service, you'll have to continue your contract; if you want out of your contract, you'll have to cancel".

I live in the boondocks, and last time I checked my telephone terminal (which is less than 1,000 feet from my home) is not DSL ready. I've been told however that it was to be upgraded. In as much, I do not plan to cancel my Sprint Mobile Broadband because of this upcoming change. From recent messages posted here it seems those who already have the service will not be affected.

At first I did not plan to jump ship, but in light of all the bad press sprint has gotten recently about their customer service I may make that choice. You see, right now I have AT&T for mobile phone service but am disappointed in the quality of service and the number of dropped calls I have had over the past year and a half: I had planned to switch to Sprint for mobile phone service since I enjoyed the mobile broadband so much. But because of this change, and as I mentioned before the bad press I may rethink this. If I chose to go with Verizon I can get the same 5GB cap for the same price, and mobile phone service to boot. So what's the advantage to stay with Sprint? None that I can think of.

What little advantage sprint had over everyone else is now nothing different. Why stay with sprint when verizon will throw a new broadband modem at you for free and a few extras just to switch away from sprint for their Unlimited ( 5GB limit) plan.

Re: 5GB Limit - How Many will try to get out of the contract?

I really see Sprint EVDO service at a disadvantage. Last I checked Verizon overall coverage area across the US is vastly superior. With a 5 GB cap the service is going to appeal to those infrequent business travelers rather than those using this as their in home internet connection. I think overall coverage will be the deciding factor for business travelers. This is a truly boneheaded move by Sprint. If caps were necessary they should have offered one higher then their competitor's who have better coverage. I signed a contract 60 days ago and I'll be canceling as soon as the information appears on my bill even though I have yet to get anywhere near 5 GB. Verizon has EVDO coverage where I live and Sprint does not. I chose Sprint because it was an unlimited service and sacrificed with dial up type speed on business travel in area's I know Verizon offered broadband.

I would love to leave but, I can't I have spent too much on routers and antennas just to get the service to work just right.

gonna be screwed the total's on all 6 of my computers = 16gb and that's not illegal stuff. Its legal like downloading linux distros and seeding them. Lifecasting, playing xm radio online, computer updates, watching youtube and playing wolfenstien ET and UT 2004. 5GB is a joke this day and age. Every ISP says browsing and email wont effect service. NEWS FLASH this is not 1994 when webpages had nothing but static text. Wildblue's cap is bigger than sprints but, got away from them cause of the 4xxxms pings impossible to do anything.

According to the rep that e-mailed me, you will be able to get out of your contract within 60 days from the date you receive the bill which includes the notification of changes to the service:

Further, you may opt out of Sprint service with no penalty on the line
of service impacted by this change if are not in agreement with the
change. You must opt out of Sprint contract within 60 days based on the
day they receive their bill message regarding the change in data usage.

If Sprint is capping the unlimited plan, than I will cancel my account. No way will I pay $60.00 per month for 5 Gigs. Plain an simple. Its to much for to little. I came from Satellite, and was very happy with Sprints data plan. Several neighbors have it on my recommendation as we in this little town have no other option. But with the price of heating oil, Gas and everything else in this country going out of site, the computer has low priority. The thing is how price changes like this affect other companies. I wonder how many people will change there mind on that new laptop or 3G iPhone with only a 5 Gig option with all carriers. My email and other internet needs will go back to dial-up and the computer will be less important. Also my cell phones will go to pay as you go like a tracphone. Off the box....

I came from satellite also and I have no plans to terminate my $49/mo Millenicom account. It's still better than Hughesnet even with a 5GB cap.

So if you cancel what service are you going to get? Alltel is the only unlimited service left and don't be surprised if they don't go with a cap soon.

The whining, crying and threats I see about the cap issue are better reading than a paperback book.

I had Wildblue Satellite. Worst ISP I ever had. I was very happy with Sprint. If you take the time to read the post, it says I will go back to dial-up. Unlimited means unlimited! I will not pay 60 bucks a month for 5 Gigs. I seen it all before, the CEO says I'm a bandwidth hog, I'm 1% of the problem, I not a nice person what ever! I say they change there terms of service, I say goodbye. Thanks, I had over a year of good service that they offered and I payed my bill on time. No crying here, they want more I say No Thanks....

I successfully got of my contract tonight but it was a bit painful. I posted my experience »Cancelled Sprint MBB My Sprint Customer Service Experience

JJW

@ky.gov

I signed up for Sprint MBB in the middle of May. I found out about the 5gb cap a week or two later. I cancelled and returned my card on the 30th day. They tried to talk me out of it stating the cap was for roaming ONLY. I wasn't confident enough to take their word for it considering that I would lose the money I spent on the card if I went on any further.

I think I will wait to see how this all pans out before I reconsider.
