| reply to wahoospa Re: Speakeasy DSL test gives extra fast results
The jerking and hesitating you note while using Speakeasy is the result of pauses/latency in the line. I don't have any proof of this, of course, but back when we were a BellSouth customer, they would always recommend using Speakeasy for speedtests, rather than FastAccess. I suspect this is because there are some shared lines between the Speakeasy/BellSouth/AT&T servers, and that would explain the good results.
I don't know what method Speakeasy uses to calculate upload/download, but I'm suspicious of the exceptionally good and consistent results. IMO, the most accurate tests -- and most comprehensive -- are at myvoipspeed.visualware.com
BTW, Speedtest.net uses a different method of calculating results that ONLY has relevance as a comparative tool for tests on their website. Trying to compare results from their site against other sites, for the most part, is like apples and oranges. The differences are subtle, but still relevant. |

With the HTTP, the Illinois server is close to my 3Mb down and ok for the upstream.
Trying the other server choices, the speed is about half or less than it should be..

| reply to bcfromfl I tried myvoipspeed.visualware.com and received results that seem to be accurate, and the site certainly provided much more backup info.
Results were: 5978 down and 438 up.
Thanks for the suggestion. -- No good deed goes unpunished. |
