Quebeckers hit Bell Canada with class action

Way to go

A link should be posted (when we find it) about where to go to join the class. Typically costs nothing, and guarantees you a share in the settlement.

For those that can't understand the french:
They are asking punitive damages in the following:
- 80% of subscription costs
- $600.00 in false representation damages concerning the speed advertised.
- $1500.00 in damages for invasion of privacy!

That's not a bad paycheck if you ask me! $2100 plus 80% of what you were paying Bell... now the thing is that it's not for "wholesale" customers... it's for their own customers...
One of my buddies in Gatineau might just do that... hehe and he's not throttled yet, but they still lie about the advertised speeds and billing and what not... so he can't lose joining in on this.

If this keeps up, Bell's legal fees are easily going to top whatever profit they thought could be made from these shenanigans. And most companies die not with a whimper, nor with a bang - but in a flurry of lawsuits.

Someone in Ontario needs to file a similar class action suit against Bell so the rest of us can join.

That's a good idea, actually.

Any lawyers want to take this up? I know oodles of people on Bell Canada who'd sign...

Extend it to wholesalers, and you get even more.

My only question is why wouldn't most of that bill be in canadian law.

If I heard about some old mushlim guy cutting the clittorise off his daughter up here in canada. I'd be pissed.

and if it was like school, distractions are not allowed, those veils on the ladies always distract me, I'd prefer if they didn't follow such extreme religions still once in canada, but they can atleast put laws in place preventing the burtal parts of these religions.

We need a PLO party for us Ontarian... Not to be confused with that other organization. Hopefully, also not outsourced to there either.

I have the impression that the Quebec court is more consumer friendly too. Wish the same for our courts here.

If the succeed it will set a precedent which the courts I think would have to look at here in Ontario

Unless you are a Sympatico customer, I don't think it would make a diff anyways. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If Bell is forced to turn off DPI for their own customers, then they have better turn it off for other ISPs that use
their infrastructure.

Personally I think a precedent to the class action would be more powerful than a CRTC ruling.

I'm from Quebec and legally speaking a lot of things are unique to Quebec. No idea if that is relevant here (not a lawyer).

But for once I guess we are getting mileage out of the innate classic French disagreeable nature
