quote: slander
A type of defamation. Slander is an untruthful oral (spoken) statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because slander is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. If the statement is made via broadcast media -- for example, over the radio or on TV -- it is considered libel, rather than slander, because the statement has the potential to reach a very wide audience

1 edit | I know the definition. Here is the important part: untruthful.
Also, If I state, "You are a complete tool". That is opinion. If I state, "Damn, you write like a complete retard." Again, opinion.
These statements whether true or not are not Slander or Libel, they are in fact opinion. You can not sue for slander for someones opinion. |

You have to prove damages..
If I were to say, "accusing someone of slander on a public forum makes you sound like a 10 year old", that would be an opinion, not slander. -- I Smell Cures! -- Our Hope |

| quote: Defamation is defined as a false statement communicated to another person that damages your reputation by exposing you to hatred, contempt, or ridicule from other people. Libel is communicating a defamatory statement by writing or picture. Slander is defamation by oral or spoken communication. If such words were written or spoken of you, you are not defamed if the words were true. Truth is a complete defense to defamation. Even if your reputation is damaged by a defamatory communication, you cannot recover if the communication was true.
