| 3web cable cuts off after cap is reached?
Hi all,
I just got off the phone, talking to a rep from 3web (which is now CIA). They advised that once my cap is reached (currently 60 GB with Rogers) they cut off my service. Reinstating account takes a phonecall and a few days of waiting. I am not sure what kind of joke that is, but i tried asking if something can be done about it, fishing for any monetary options of avoiding a cut. Nada. No options. They are cutting it. Right at cap.
"We don't control the line, it's whatever Rogers set up" - so how do they even know where is my Rogers cap, if as a 3web customer I no longer have a Rogers account??
It is becoming extremely frustrating that Rogers, formerly the lesser of the two evils (I'd take Robbers over Hell any time of day), is now injecting framed messages into the sites I browse, robbing me of 30% of viewable space. I am NOT acknowledging their CYAs, and am determined to dump them out of principle... "You just don't mess with other man's google!"
Any good cable/DSL recommendations (other than Hell and now 3web) would be very welcome. Cheers. |

Rogers doesn't even do that. Measuring is probably done by the pCube boxes which do the throttling. 3web isn't throttled. I don't see why Rogers would cap. |

@vdn.ca | reply to AlsoDisgruntled yeah, my ISP does it. As soon as i have 1 GB left, i get slowed down to 10-20 kb/sec... really lame |

@rogers.com | Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't VDN - a Bell company? In that case, your experience is hardly surprising... |
|
  Peteee
@vdn.ca | you're right, VDN is a division of Bell, but they offer cable service which is 100% unthrottled. I still get over 600-700 kb/s on my torrents during peak hours.
VDN only provides big buildings with this type of service... |

| said by alex6999 :i going to install 3web platinum cable, is it caps? Yes. It seems excessive use does make you stand out and they'll kick you off service. So don't push it, you've been warned. They'll be better off without a user like you. If you really want something unlimited, go with the service that explicitly states that the service is unlimited, like Teksavvy's unlimited dsl, albeit throttled. You can't find an officially unlimited cap and unthrottled residential internet connection in Ontario. So don't bother. Suck it up. This is the reality. |

Until Bell decides next week that they're imposing caps on their partners...but forget to inform them of their decision until a flood of calls come in asking if there's a cap on the service. Gentlemen. We're screwed. The hey days of internet are now over and in the next few years residential participation will probably take a massive decline as people shed a service they feel is obtrusive, unreliable and overpriced. |

How credible is this report about caps?
Alsodisgrunted says he's with 3web but gets injected framed messages into sites he's visiting.
I dont recall ever seeing that when im with 3web cable. |

You are living in a fantasy world if you think that this throttling affects ordinary users, or that ordinary users would care enough about this to even google the term "throttling". To suggest that people will leave the internet because they can't suck down unlimited bandwidth is just complete fantasyland.
Ah, but you also think that bandwidth is free, so that explains the fantasyland. -- Stephen J. Friedl | Unix Wizard | Microsoft Security MVP | Tustin, California USA | my web site |

| reply to AlsoDisgruntled I dont think it is a fanasyland, if these obsene caps are lifted a bit then I fully expect to see some residential internet decline.
I have 3 people currently in my place here and we are all sharing a Rogers Extreme package here. When my brother recently bought his PS3 I saw my usage jump from a max of about 20GB month to a high so far of 75GB and that is without any P2P
I am sure that most people probably are running an Express service or compareable with a 60GB cap. It wont long before Joe Public who knows little to nothing about the internet, who signed up for a unlimited plan whenever and then finds out he is not on unlimited anymore that he will be upset over this. |

| reply to AlsoDisgruntled regardless, im really loving 3web since i switched to them.
consistent internet quality, fast customer support calls, accurate account/billing updates, etc etc... I am VERY impressed based on what I've read about them for all these years. Either I am EXTREMELY lucky or they have really improved over the years
