New Channel Realignment

On the Verizon website they have channels listed in the 1000 range. Most are Spanish and also the music channels are there. I wonder if they plan on moving them. They are listed under their current numbers and new numbers. Right now it looks all F'd up, hard to figure it out.

Edit 6/4:
Here are links to two new lineups posted so far

Indiana new lineup 6/30/08

Oregon new lineup 7/9/08 7/21/08

Whoa! That really is hard to read. One take-away - it looks like they're creating HD groupings that are analogous to the SD groupings: HD Sports, HD Entertainment, et. al.

Also looks like they are showing MLB Extra Innings, Center Ice, and Setanta in the 1000 range.

Also, ESPNews HD. (Missed that one Mat).

I saw that too, but I think it's a mistake - or a bad grouping. Note that MLB EI and NHL CI are also listed under PPV, and I can't imagine they'll be PPV. Looks like a bad grouping to me.

Huh? They're sports subscription packs, which means they're like a premium channel. I've never heard of a provider charging you per view for one of those packages. Granted, they charge you per season... but not per view.

Re: New Channel Realignment?

They are subscription packs per season, correct. My last provider had it under PPV. You have to "pay" every year to "view" it. It is considered PPV rather than a sports pack where you pay every month with your bill. You have to renew every season if you want it.

Ok, our understanding is the same, then. I've just never seen them listed under PPV before. I guess to me PPV is just that pay per view - watch the event while it's on, and that's it.

I've just checked the Message Center. Nothing about new/rearranged channels/new HD BUT there is a message about the new VOD website stuff...

Also checked channel 49 but nothing there other than the scrolling Weather HD ad...Where else should I check?

The advance notice requirement is typically 30 days, AFAIK, but this depends on the local franchise rules. Maybe the Fort Wayne franchise rules don't require 30 days. Or Verizon posted an announcement in the Saturday or Sunday paper in Ft. Wayne to meet the legal requirement, but no one who is a dslreports poster noticed it.

OT but interesting...

If I go to FiOS TV central and put my ZIP in, the local HD channel listings are screwed up. The listing shows them as starting at 801 when in reality, the start at 810. They have the order messed up as well. The listings were OK the other day.

Back on topic...

I think if you don't put your ZIP in on the v*.com channel line-up you get a grossly messed up version. I could be wrong about that. For a couple of examples, they show both HBO-HD (851, 900) and FiOS On Demand (900) as sharing the same channel. They also show Food Network HD (664, 840) on the same channel as "I love the 90's" music (664).

There is a lot of weird duplication and channel overlap if you don't put your ZIP in.

Even in HD, they still have that weird separation of USA HD, TNT HD, TBS HD far from the similar channels ...
They should be in "close flip" proximity to A&E HD, SciFi HD, BravoHD ect ....

Yes, they put only 5 channels: USA, TNT, TBS, FX, Spike in the "Entertainment" group of 50 to 54 and Sci-FI, A&E, Comedy Central in the "Pop Culture" now starting at 180. Odd alignment. So USA is entertaining, but ABC Family is pop culture? The Sports, News, Info & Education, Home & Leisure, Marketplace groupings make sense, but not the separation of USA from Sci-FI or Comedy Central. Wonder if USA, TNT, TBS, FX, and Spike gave Verizon better terms to be featured at the start of the national channel line-up?

Woah, this just sunk in... so all the Starz HD and Showtime HD channels are NOT premium channels!? They're on channels 840-867 and listed under "Movies" right under HD Net Movies (which is not a premium) and as before the Premiums ARE pulled out separately... If that's the case, SWEET!

I think they're still part of the Movie Package, cuz their SD counterparts are still asterisked under "Movie Package". My guess is that you still need the Movie Package to get their HD versions, even though the HD listings aren't broken out.

Whoa gal! De-excite...

Stars, Encore, Showtime, Flix and TMC (what have I forgotten?) are part of the "Movie Package" and do cost extra. For some reason, HBO and Maximum Sin are labeled as "Premium".

If you aren't subscribed to the Movie Package, you won't get the HD versions.

I think they are still part of the Movie Pack.
There is a big gap between HDNet Movies (746) & Starz! (841)
Following the SD lineup, The Sports Pack (300-339) could be 800-839 for the HD version...although Golf(HD) & Outdoor(HD) are not in that block.
It looks like they were using a similar lineup with SD(1-490) and HD(501-990)

Hmm, that's odd. I wonder why Golf and Outdoor were exceptions to the numbering scheme.

And whether FIOS will carry the overflow games on Big Ten Network.

I'm still trying to figure out if Versus/Golf HD will be part of the sports package or not since Golf Channel SD is still considered part of the sports package but Versus SD is still part of the Premier package. It would be disappointing if I have to fork over an extra 8 dollars a month just to watch Versus in HD, especially the NHL games. Verizon should either move Golf Channel SD to the Premier package or they should move Versus SD to the Sports package. It's only fair.

That's definitely new. That's good, but it won't be cheap (probably about $160.00 a season based on cable's rates). I'd rather have the NHL network.

Ok, here is my attempt at summarizing the HD channels that apparently will be added this summer (and into the fall?) on a market by market basis:

New HD Summary
Besides the HD locals, whatever HD Regional Sports Networks (RSN) are actually provided in each market, Verizon Fios currently has 16 national HD channels and 5 HD premium movie channels. The new line-up for Fort Wayne and Portland, OR show 20 new national HD channels and 7 new premium HD channels. My math gets me 48 HD channels plus HD locals & RSNs. Bring it on!

New Verizon Fios National HD Channels listed with channel number (current HD channels are moved to between these):
550 USA HD
552 TBS HD
572 ESPNews HD
585 Big Ten Network HD
590 VERSUS/Golf Channel HD
591 Outdoor Channel HD
600 CNN HD
602 CNBC HD
603 MSNBC HD *(not live yet)
619 The Weather Channel HD
622 Science Channel HD
625 Smithsonian Channel HD
628 History Channel HD
630 Animal Planet HD
639 TLC HD
640 Lifetime HD
641 Lifetime West HD
680 Sci-Fi Channel HD
682 MOJO HD
685 Bravo HD

841 Starz Kids & Family HD
842 Starz Comedy HD
843 Starz Edge HD
866 Showtime West HD
867 Showtime 2 HD
901 HBO West HD
921 Cinemax West HD

Note: MSNBC-HD is not on the air yet and a May 31 industry article quotes the NBC executive in charge of MSNBC that they hope to get MSNBC-HD on the air by early in the 4th quarter. So this may be a error on the part of Verizon.

WONDERING ALOUD HERE, we all like where this is going BUT, Oregon never had Analogs and if I recall correctly, Indiana was scheduled to lose the analogs first (around April). We know from some of our friends on the inside that there is quite a bit of work to do between gaining the QAM space and rolling out the Channels.

So using straight-line interpolation on FW-IN 4/1 (Lose Analog) - becomes 6/30 (new HD)... Does that mean 6/2 (NNJ) becomes 8/30? etc.

Here's hoping that there are lessons learned and the work in between can be shortened. Am I off base (hopefully)? I know, it will happen when it happens but just wondering.
