| FiOS TV to add 27 new HD channels in July
From »www.engadgethd.com/2008/06/04/ru···in-july/ :
Although rumors from well respected forum posters give us a good reason to get excited, there's nothing quite like getting confirmation from the source. The linked PDF is the FiOS lineup that will be effective next month n Portland and includes 27 new HD channels not currently available to FiOS customers. As you might expect, Verizon had to really shuffle up the the lineup -- posted after the jump -- to add this many channels, which now includes just about every HD channel anyone would want; like eight premium movie channels and all the latest cable channels like Sci Fi HD and CNN HD. These new channels will really help propel FiOS from last to first in regards to HD quantity, by over doubling the number of HD channels offered. Unfortunately, there's no word on when the rest of the FiOS customers will have access to these channels, but if you live in a FiOS area, and the analog channels are already gone, there's a good chance they'll come sooner, rather than later.

I know, you were only quoting the article, but I had to disagree with the premise -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

These 25+ channels are a great start, but they certainly don't represent all the Hd channels. More HD channels will be launching over the next year which FiOs will hopefully add when they launch sicne DirecTv plans to add them too. |

Are you counting the Ft. Wayne locals in that? We get more locals in HD than Ft. Wayne does (8 vs. 4). Right now we have 30 HD channels in the Philly area (including locals and CSN Philly). Ft. Wayne has 26 (if I counted right). Which means that they are adding (according to that list) 26 new national HD channels. So in the Philly area we'll have 56 HD channels when we get them.
I actually think it's going to be a few more than that. I believe they're still in negotiation with these channel providers, and can't disclose that the channels will be available. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of HD we get will actually be 30 new ones (some prominent ones seem to be missing from that first list, which I expected to be there - FX, e.g., and Fox Business). |

As someone said, you have more HD locals & RSNs than Ft. Wayne... They currently have 4 Locals, 1 RSN, 16 National & 5 Premiums, for a total of 26. There looks to be 20 New Nationals, and 7 New Premiums.
Looking at the PDF, I count 52 -- but I don't see The Movie Channel HD... |

| said by Calabria :I'm surprised that the travel channel is missing. Isn't that part of the discovery set? Me too. That's why I said I believe (nothing but naked speculation on my part) that the number will actually be higher than 26 or 27. It sounds like Verizon is still in negotiation with some of these providers. They may still be negotiating a rate for Travel HD... or it could have been a typo. I was also surprised to not see FX HD on there, or Fox Business HD - I know that last is a new channel, but Verizon said that they would carry it when they had the room.
I'm also surprised to only see an HD version of Smithsonian. Again, Verizon indicated that they would carry it both in SD and HD.
And now that they're going to have gobs of space to play with, there are a couple channels that I'd like to see them add (beyond the new HD channels). Things like NASA TV (which doesn't cost them anything to carry) and Chiller (especially since Chiller HD will be coming at some point). |

Things like NASA TV Yes!
Right now I get it part time on a PEG, which is better than nothing, but not nearly good enough -- it tends to switch to local programming just at the moment when something interesting is about to happen. -- 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0 |

| reply to JPL When you talk about gobs of space, is that all to do with the analog deletion or is that a combination with upgrades? Also how much room do they actually have now,are they maxed out until more upgrades.Sorry about all the questions -- 9929 |

Well, there's a Smithsonian SD feed on VOD. And when Verizon announced the addition of the channel, they specifically said both SD and HD versions. Maybe the SD version is coming later. |
