Fix for ugly DSL filter hanging in middle of wall?

The phone-line plug in the kitchen came with a spot to hang a wall phone. For the past few months, the DSL filter is just hanging there in the middle of the wall, as the current phone is not on the wall, nor is the base unit "useable" with it on the wall. My DSL installation pack came with a filter for "install phone on the wall," but I have no idea where it is, or if I still have the device.

Is there a line RJ11 on one end and a female connector on the other that I can put on there. In other words, put a cord in wall, then connect the filter, then connect the phone? If such a connector exists, I can then hang a decorative textile or small wall quilt in the area to hide the plug.

Yes, I know I can purchase a filter for wall phone, but I am guessing that if the cord I want exists, it will cost a lot less.

Re: Fix for ugly DSL filter hanging in middle of wall?

Call the dsl help line you may be able to convince the rep to ship a wall phone filter or a dual port microfilter to you free of any charges.

Or maybe I don't understand

You understood. I don't think AT&T is going to ship anything to me "free."

Why not? My girlfriend has AT&T DSL and part of her install package was a wall mount DSL filter.

They might. They sent me a wall phone filter in my welcome kit. Maybe they can send one to you.

Best solution is to install a whole house filter (POTS filter, NID filter), and run a separate unfiltered line direct from the NID to your modem.

Second the motion to install a filter at the NID. I did that when DSL was installed and now have exactly one other filter working, the filter on the computer line at my desk for the phone there.

This what I did 5 years ago, used red/green for voice and yellow/black for dsl(or on newer wiring blue/white for voice and whatever for dsl) and got a wall plate with 2 phone jacks, works great, have a 2 story house 4 phones (1 a 3 handset wireless) and never a problem.

If I understand what you are looking for, you could buy a phone line coupler (~$3-5 at Home Depot or WalMart) and plug a phone line into it.

I do have a phone line coupler (I searched Google) and it just plugs into wall, and the DSL filter will still hang in middle of the wall).

Re: Fix for ugly DSL filter hanging in middle of wall?

If you have nothing connected there remove the filter, it should have no effect on the dsl.

What I was describing has two female jacks and you would plug one end of a longer cord into one jack and then other cord end into the wall and plug the microfilter into the other jack of the coupler. Then all you have to do is hide the phone cord hanging from the wall.

How about this? It's not free, but it's less than $5.

My sister had this same issue. I just took the face plate off the wall jack and shoved the filter with a little bit of line in the box and put the face plate back on. Of course I made the wires look good but to this day its still like that.

Are you just looking for a wall mount filter? I can get you one ordered if that's the case.

Wayjac, In the AT&T Southeast region the 2Wire Wireless Gateway comes with a self-install kit that contains 4 2Wire phone filters. 3 2Wire phone filters, 1 2Wire phone filter with an ADSL convenience jack, and no wall filter. There is a sheet of paper in the kit telling you to go here www.bellsouth.net/filters if you need to order a wall filter.

The Motorola 2210-02-1006 that we get in the AT&T Southeast region comes with a self-install kit (KIT4BS) that contains 4 Suttle filters. 3 (900LC4-50BS) Suttle phone filters, 1 (900LCS4-50BS) Suttle phone filter with an ADSL convenience jack, and no wall filter. There is a sheet of paper in the kit telling you to go here www.bellsouth.net/filters if you need to order a wall filter.

The 2Wire Wireless Gateways, that I have seen, have always came with the 2Wire filter kit. I have helped people with about 5 2Wire installs here in the last couple of months.

The Motorola 2210-02-1006 Wired Gateways have came with the Suttle filter kit or the 2Wire filter kit. I have helped people with about 7 Motorola 2210-02-1006 installs here in the last couple of months.

There is a blue insert in the FastAccess DSL Welcome Guide that say this.

.
.

"The new at&t. Your world. Delivered.

If you have a wall-mount phone currently installed in your home, AT&T will provide you with one (1) complimentary wall-mount filter.

You will receive a complimentary Excelsus Wall Mount Filter (model Z-330W) by going to »store.att.com/wallmount. Visit our website and fill out customer information, entering the Promotional Code below in the appropriate field on the page, then click Submit.
This offer also includes free Shipping and Handling.

Promotional Code: wallmountfilter

WALLMNTINS1107"

Hope this can be of some help.

Re: Fix for ugly DSL filter hanging in middle of wall?

It is entirely possible that the promotion code in my previous reply is only for the AT&T Southeast region (formally BellSouth) and will not work in the other AT&T regions.

In the AT&T Southeast region if someone orders brand new FastAccess DSL service from AT&T Southeast then their self-install filter kit would not have came with a Wall Mount Filter, but it should have came with an insert providing instructions to order one FREE from AT&T. They quit sending Wall Mount Filters with the kits awhile back because they are very rarely used and it was a waste of money to send them out if most people don't need one. If someone has recently ordered FastAccess DSL service from AT&T Southeast and did not receive an insert providing instructions to obtain a Wall Mount Filter then they can call AT&T up and AT&T ought send them one free of charge.

I'm not exactly sure how things happen in the other AT&T regions.

If you have had DSL service for a long time and have just lost your Wall Mount Filter then you need to order one.

You can order one from the AT&T Store for $6.00 with $4.50 Shipping and Handling.

You can also order one from the manufacturer, but not really for less money. They do have a greater variety with more configuration options though.

Yes, the wall mount filter seems like the best option. I looked in a few more places, and it seems to be lost. Yes I would like one!

Those guys are experts. Their specialty is network component selection, component placement, and wiring. No job too big or too small. Their portfolio is quite extensive which explains the slow to load web site.

I still laugh when I look at the site. I wish that they had some new material there though.

I know these guys can help with the OP's problem.

This is silly. Those filters are a dime a dozen. I've got one sitting in a box that I'm never going to use. PM me a shipping address and I'll drop it in a USPS priority padded envelope.

Just plug the filter into the phone, then the phone line wire into it and to the wall jack. Not too hard of a fix.
