WiFi just stops working

I've only had FiOS for a week, but have problems with WiFI. It just stops working. It slows to a crawl, and then dies. A reboot of the Actiontec router brings it right back to life, but this happens all day long and when I'm in the middle of doing something. Is there some setting in the router that is causing this?

It's a known, or at least common, problem with the Actiontec.

I disabled wireless on the Actiontec, bought an Airport Extreme and put it in bridge mode and connected it via the lan port on the Actiontec. No problems since.

The fact that the router sucks at routing causes it. I went through the same thing with my wireless. I was getting speeds slower than dial up on one of my boxes. Like 5 minutes to load a page if it even loaded at all. You'll probably have to play with bridging the router like kes601 said. Check out my earlier post "NIM 100 a solution for me?" for what finally worked for me. It's pretty convoluted and can be frustrating. Good luck

I did not bridge the router, I bridged the Airport Extreme.

I do not do bittorent or anything that would fill up the NAT table. My issue was the router would quit handing out IP addresses via the wireless connection at least once a week. Wired connections had no such issue, and since it seems the Airport Extreme as a wired device, every device connecting to the Extreme is seen as a wired device, so no DHCP problems. I actually don't think I've reset the Actiontec since I bought the Extreme, that has been 5 or 6 months.

The point is you bridged something. The Actiontec is crappy for routing AND wireless. My Belkin works at twice the speed of the Actiontec, so it is a no brainer that I was going to lose speed on at least the one PC that has a Belkin nic in it. I didn't think it would be as bad as it was. I think it may have quit handing out IP addresses, too. Until I disable dhcp entirely on it, I had problems. I think I've got it right this time

I was only clarifying since there are instructions on the forum on how to bridge the Actiontec, which would not be necessary if you just want to use a different wireless device....just trying to save the OP some time

Try changing the channel on the wireless.

I wish it were that simple.
