Since this thread has degraded into nothing more than name-calling, and since the news servers are 'gone', this thread has served its purpose.

Remember, You need to file a complaint with Time Warner Cable Inc.
Admittedly, BBB is still showing the HQ as the TW center, but the fact still stands that if you want a response, its better to go though the local division. |

The technical support people are saying that this was one of the "free services" but when you ask them what specific services I am paying for when I pay my bill they have no answer. The fact that there is no breakdown of services and their associated charges on the billing statements makes this argument legally pointless. Their only hope for this argument is if they can get people to believe their BS. They told be to contact the billing department for a breakdown of charges, but they are not responding to the tickets I have opened....I would imagine because they have no idea what services are free and what services make up our billing. Whatever service they drop next would be a "free service" too I am sure.
File a complaint with the NY BBB. It cannot hurt and it only takes a minute to go through the form. Get your complaint on record with them.

| reply to Xizer I love the debate in this thread:
Person A bitches about loosing a newsgroup Person B offers a counter perspective in any fashion Person A and everyone else calls person B a company shill.
I mean really, This is equivalent to shouting "2+2=5", Plugging your ears, and running around saying LA LA LA LA.
Also, what hob said is not "Propaganda" its the TRUTH: »policyblog.verizon.com/PolicyBlo···ice.aspx
That's right, everyone's favorite company, with its service that everyone makes out to be the second coming of god, IS BLATANTLY CENSORING THERE NEWSGROUP.
At this point, I'm sure most of you have stopped reading, but let me remind you yet again: If you don't like it, sitting here armchair CEOing is not going to change anything. Call up, and CANCEL your service, tell them exactly why, they note it in the systems, and go to another service.
But what do i know? Most of your probably read the first half of the post and are already typing in "Blahh blahh blahh company shill" right now.
This thread needed a lock 25 pages ago. |

Usenet service has been as much a part of provisioned Internet services as email. I first started using it in 1989, at a time when it was impractical to post binaries on Usenet. It was the first truly worldwide open system for Internet messaging. It is an amazing global information resource, and the moderated newsgroups are important forums for discussion and information exchange. I have friends who have read and contributed to discussions on ALT.REC.GUNS for a decade or two and would consider anyone who would do away with Usenet a dangerous control freak.
Keep in mind that using Usenet to transfer copyrighted binaries is a relatively recent phenomenon. Much earlier, anonymous FTP sites were the preferred way of moving files around, and before that pirate Bulletin Board Systems were employed. Today we have P2P software, IRC, IM clients, email attachments and countless other ways to transfer binary files. All can be used to pirate stuff if the user has a mind to, but does that automatically condemn it to being a frivolous extravagance that should be taken away from everyone just because it can be misused?
I sure hope not. As the saying goes, "Don't throw out the baby with the bath water." |

According to several posters in this thread, they're getting credits and discounted services after calling RR and complaining. |

I personally find TWC's decision to be TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS!
And to top it off now I am beginning to hear about bandwidth caps as well? TWC is nothing more than a bunch of scum sucking pigs.
I stopped using the "adult" porn groups months ago - I rarely looked at them anyhow, but I do not think it is TWC's place to decide what I or others can and cannot look at if it is legal. TO me I always counted on the newsgroups for LEARNING purposes, you know, like programming advice, software useage forums like flight sim, etc etc etc. |

"This is just another form of big corporation controlling our lives and freedoms."
Getting rid of a little used service is controlling your life and your freedom? Possibly one of the funniest things I read all day!
"I am so looking forward to either U-Verse or FIOS being available in the Centerville, Ohio area."
I thought Verizon just canned all the groups everyone wanted.

| reply to Endian Well if you do a Google search for Newsgroup servers. I am sure you can find at least a couple of FREE UseNet newsgroup servers.
This is just another form of big corporation controlling our lives and freedoms.
I am so looking forward to either U-Verse or FIOS being available in the Centerville, Ohio area. Why does it take them so long to bring these technologies online? |
